According to the video’s owner, the dish she is making is fried mountain lizard with tamarind sauce.

Mountain lizards belong to the gecko family and are distinguished from other species by the white stripes on the back, the tail is light brown. Unlike other geckos, mountain lizards only eat ripe figs, bananas and southern medicinal leaves, so the meat is tough, fragrant and nutritious.

With this feature, the mountain lizard is not only a toy but also nutritious food. It is only commonly found in Ba Den mountains, Tay Ninh province, and was first described in 2006.

This lizard species lives in caves or in cliffs and has only been recorded at an altitude of 100-500m.

Mountain lizards are processed into many delicious dishes such as chopped fried with green pepper served with rice paper and guise leaves. But the most prominent is still the deep-fried mountain lizard served with salad, herbs and tamarind sauce.

It is known that currently, the State has banned the fishing of mountain lizards to maintain the relatively small number of individuals left on Ba Den Mountain, but they are still hunted secretly because this is a reptile, so the meat is very tasty and brings great flavor.
