SON LA – Unable to return to Hanoi after the trip, Thu Phuong and her husband built a small house in Chieng Di village, enjoying a peaceful summer with their children.

The house of the 40-year-old woman’s family is 50 m2 wide, with a neat brick path leading to a garden of green vegetables and roses, surrounded by a garden of perennial plum and peach trees. Every day, her family is awakened by the sound of birds singing in the garden, then they go for a walk together in the cold weather of the highland village, sipping a cup of warm tea, inhaling the scent of flowers in the air.

Emotions are the reason why Phuong and her husband decided to build a house. Working in the field of tourism, you have come many times to Moc Chau and Van Ho districts. Falling in love with this land, in 2020, they decided to buy a piece of land of 3,600 m2 on Chieng Di slope, in Chieng Di village (Van Ho district) for savings. In July 2021, the whole family went on a weekend trip to Moc Chau and have been stuck for nearly 3 months now because of the Covid-19 epidemic. Emotions continue to motivate her and her husband to build a small house.

“Instead of being worried and sad because of being stuck, our family chooses to enjoy the joys and most importantly, not waste a single moment in life,” Phuong said with a smile. At an altitude of about 1,200 m above sea level, the weather is always cool, the afternoon sun is golden, especially the land of her family is shaded by hundreds of perennial trees. In the days of starting to build the house, they took advantage of hoeing the ground, making a garden of about 200 m2 to grow green vegetables, roses, and sow mustard seeds under plum and peach trees.

After a month of completion, although it is not large, only enough to cover the rain, sun and ensure basic amenities, Phuong’s family moved to live instead of a hotel. She shared, although this place is called a village, but it is very close to Moc Chau, the road is easy to go, so the delivery is convenient, basically her family is not lacking in material. At present, the only inconvenience they face is the lack of water, because the households here all use water flowing from the mountains.

Every day, outside of working hours, the small family goes for a walk together or visits the surrounding destinations, such as Bo Nhang village with green rice fields, Xuan Nha commune with terraced fields, and Thai village or commune. To Mua with mountain roads from which you can see the green and long cornfields. The rest of the time, Ms. Phuong takes care of the plants in the garden, and her husband picks tea and then dries it to enjoy every morning. The family’s daily meal is always a variety of mountain and forest dishes such as wildflowers stir-fried with beef, sturgeon, chayote, Moc Chau yogurt…

Her 7-year-old daughter got acquainted with many children of the same age in the village. Every day, the children take each other out to run around the tea hills and plum fields. The friends in the copy taught her about flowers and natural animals, and she taught her friends to speak English. When she went shopping with her parents, she did not forget to ask her mother to buy more toys for the children at home, badminton rackets or pizza.

In Chieng Di, Phuong’s family also has a new member, two golden dog mothers. They have come here since you built the fence around the house and stayed until now, running after them every day when going out, from 2 skinny dogs, now they are fatter and more beautiful.

Close friends and experiences in nature are not easy to come by when her daughter lives in the city.

Peace is what Phuong likes the most during her days in Chieng Di village. Her family is temporarily out of the economic and work cycle, every morning is no longer rushing to get up early to take the children to the bus to go to school. Every day, she feels happy when watching the trees grow, flowers bloom, rainy days in the garden like a small waterfall. Moreover, she loves her husband’s “like an old man” appearance when making tea and also the joy and carefreeness of her daughter when singing, running and dancing with friends in the middle of nature.

Next time when the epidemic is under control, they will return to Hanoi to continue their work and send their children to school. The land in Chieng Di has no specific business plan, but she wants to build a glamping campsite (luxury camping) to make a small contribution to increasing the local people’s livelihood.
