Early blooming pink lily season in Ho Chi Minh City

“About 1-2 weeks after the flowers bloom is the most beautiful period,” said Nguyen Van May, 30, who has lived and worked in Ho Chi Minh City for more than 10 years.

According to Mr. May, on the roads he went through to take photos of the pink lily season, the section from Saigon bridge to Dien Bien Phu roundabout has many beautiful blooming trees.

“Every year when the flower season comes, I also bring a camera to take pictures to save beautiful images of the city where I live,” Mr. May shared.

Having also done many photo shoots of pink lilies, Nguyen Phuoc Sang, 26, wakes up at 5am and walks along the streets to hunt for the best frames.

Born and raised in Ho Chi Minh City, Sang said: “Each place has a typical flower season, like Hanoi has milk flower season, Ho Chi Minh City has pink lily season”. As a photographer, Sang’s pink lily photos are loved by many people and are widely shared on social networks.

This year’s flower season, Sang was most impressed with two trees near Thu Thiem tunnel, both separate and in full bloom.

Pink trumpet is a woody plant, grown mainly in urban areas. The flowers are bell-shaped, pink like cherry blossoms, growing in clusters of 10 to 20 flowers on the top of the branches.

According to Mr. May, pink trumpets often bloom when the weather gradually turns to summer. The flowers bloom only once a year and will usually last about a month.

Returning to work after Tet, Ms. Nguyen Hong Thuy was delighted to see pink lilies blooming on the trees along the roadside. “I am especially impressed with the pink lily tree on the corner of Dien Bien Phu Street (pictured). The tree is both large and full of flowers, standing alone in the corner,” said Ms. Thuy.
