On the 4th day of Tet, Mr. Nguyen Van Minh’s fishing boat (Minh Thanh village, Quynh Long commune, Quynh Luu district) with 18 fishermen had an “open sea” trip at the beginning of the year. Hit the fish channel in the Gulf of Tonkin fishing ground, the fishing boat arrived earlier than planned with the boat compartment full.
Ho fish are purchased by traders at the port at the price of 80,000-90,000 VND/kg. On this trip, Mr. Minh and his friends collected 1.7 billion VND. After deducting the cost of engine oil, and fishing gear… the fishermen made a profit of 1.1 billion dongs.
Mr. Vu Ngoc Chat – Chairman of Quynh Long Commune Fisheries Association said that there are about 40 large-capacity fishing boats in the commune, specializing in offshore fishing, creating regular jobs for more than 1,100 workers.
“At the beginning of the year, only about half of fishing boats go out to sea and fish in large fishing grounds. Compared with other years, the fishing output after the Lunar New Year of the Rat of fishing vessels is much higher, the value of production is much higher. The average volume is from 200 million VND to more than one billion VND/trip,” said Mr.
Seafood from returning fishing vessels is purchased by traders at the port to be exported to China or consumed in the domestic market.
According to Mr. Chat, seafood prices in the market are quite stable, sometimes increasing slightly. Offshore fishing activities in Quynh Long commune are strongly affected by gasoline prices, but with large capacity boats with high output, fishermen still earn large profits after each trip.
The record value obtained after a voyage at the beginning of the year of the Rat belongs to a fishing vessel owned by Mr. Dao Hung (from Quynh Long commune, currently residing in Quynh Thuan commune, Quynh Luu district).
The fishing boat of Mr. Hung and his friends went out to sea on February 1 (January 11) and returned to shore on January 14 with an output of 30 tons of pit fish. With a selling price of 90,000 VND/kg, Mr. Hung’s first trip to the sea this year collected 2.7 billion VND. After deducting the costs of fishing gear, fuel, and labor, the ship owner made a profit of nearly 2 billion dongs.
According to the leader of Nghe An Fisheries Association, due to increased export demand, the price of cod fish also increased. If last year, a kilogram of fish was sold for 50,000-70,000 VND, this time fluctuated at 80,000-90,000 VND/kg, up 20% over the same period.
Ho fish, also known as sawfish, is a wide-headed fish with high nutritional value. Currently, this fish is very popular with many people, bringing economic value and being exported to countries such as China, Korea, Taiwan, Japan, etc.
