Mr. Truong Tien Trien, Vice Chairman of Can Gio District People’s Committee, said that on the evening of January 26, more than 1,400 people visited the street, more than 300 visitors from outside the locality, and the stalls were full of customers. The opening of the night market is one of the first moves of Can Gio district in developing the night economic model.

After going into operation, the night market is expected to open from 3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. every Friday, Saturday, Sunday and holidays. This is not only a fun spot for people but also a destination serving tourists everywhere. In addition to promoting local tourism, the night market also creates jobs for local people and is expected to be a focal point for consuming agricultural products, food and seafood for Can Gio farmers and fishermen.

According to Mr. Trien, every year this coastal district attracts more than 2 million tourists to visit and relax. Before the night market opened, most tourist activities ended before 6:00 p.m., there were no nighttime services for tourism such as discotheques, bars, karaoke, night markets, and there were only a few catering establishments. Mainly for locals. “This leads to the habit of tourists traveling to Can Gio during the day or in the morning in Can Gio, and in the evening staying overnight in Vung Tau,” Mr. Trien said.

“We will call for and encourage investment according to regulations to develop types of nightlife tourist services such as discotheques, bars, karaoke, massage, and nightlife entertainment areas for children,” Mr. Trien said. added.

Ms. Ninh Hoa, owner of Ruby Homestay Can Gio, said that on the first day of the night market’s operation, this business registered a German beer stall, and “the crowded market did not have enough seats for visitors.”

Ms. Hoa hopes that if the number of visitors is as large as the night streets of Phu Quoc or Phan Thiet, Vung Tau, this will be a “very promising” tourist destination because it has the advantage of green, clean and beautiful nature, located in the heart of Ho Chi Minh City. attracts domestic and foreign visitors. In the local orientation, Can Gio night street will be developed along the triangular axis of three tourist destinations: Can Thanh – Binh Khanh – Long Hoa. Currently, the central area has a night market, and a number of other locations are being completed.

“Businesses will join forces with the district to make the night market form, develop and become an attractive destination for tourists,” Ms. Hoa said.

Can Gio is considered to have a lot of potential for tourism development, being the only locality in Ho Chi Minh City with forests and beaches. In 2000, Can Gio district was recognized by UNESCO as a world biosphere reserve.

Before Can Thanh night market opened, Ho Chi Minh City had 9 operating night markets. Representative of Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism said that night markets and night food streets are typical tourism products contributing to the night economy of Ho Chi Minh City. city. The advantage of the night-time economy is to attract tourists and create highlights and colors for each locality and region. The more diversified the night-time economy is invested in, the more likely it is to retain tourists, thereby creating a favorable environment for operating accompanying activities and services, attracting investment in all types of tourism, extend the length of stay and increase tourist spending at the destination.
