THUA THIEN – HUE Visitors who want to understand more about the work of the old guard can participate in the guard change ceremony, starting at 8:30 every day at Ngo Mon Gate.

Visiting the Citadel, in addition to admiring the beauty of the ancient capital citadel, visitors can also see the changing guard ceremony re-enacted by the artists of Hue Imperial Traditional Art Theater.

Hue Monuments Conservation Center said, a team participating in the guard change ceremony included captain, martial arts officer, 12 soldiers. In addition, because it was a reenactment ceremony, there was a small orchestra consisting of 7 people accompanying it.

Guan Yu stood in front of the small orchestra and soldiers seated. All follow the orders of the martial arts officer to perform the rituals.

The ceremony begins at 8:30 every day, departing from the Ngo Mon Gate, then the team goes through the Ngu Phung floor.

Next, the team went behind Thai Hoa Palace, made a circle, then returned to Duyet Thi Duong and ended here at 9am.

The minor music team used the post Dang Dan Cung (the national anthem of the Nguyen Dynasty) during the guard change ceremony.

According to the book Kham Dinh Dai nam Hoi Dictionary Le, under the Nguyen dynasty, the guard and turn of soldiers were strictly regulated: “The guard guards in the forbidden palace and the guard guards at the gates of the Forbidden City, Imperial Citadel When the watch turns without guard (the one who has finished the watch session), arbitrarily replacing himself, the person to replace it must be fined 60 staff. Bringing a person who is not a guard, the bodyguard impersonating himself to replace each other, even the one who replaced, must be fined 100 staff. If you are an officer, you must weigh up a step … “

In addition to helping visitors understand more about the activities in the forbidden palace of the Nguyen Dynasty, this activity also contributes to preserving and promoting the intangible cultural value of Hue heritage.

At a big event like the Hue Festival, the number of participants in the reenactment ceremony will be increased for a more beautiful formation.
