Northern tile house ‘hidden’ in the forest

SON LA – From Thanh Hoa moved to Son La, the owner cherished a four-level house hidden under the green trees, reminiscent of the home of childhood.

The opportunity to realize the dream of a house is reminiscent of the days of living with parents until the owner buys a piece of land that “exceeds expectations”. The land of more than 450 m2 is located on a gentle hillside with small rocky outcrops and many old trees.

The request of the owner is a simple house, both carrying the traditions of the old Northern house and feeling the “breath” of the Northwest mountains.

The house is designed with only one floor, gradually rising to the back.

The architect offers a one-story house design, low from the outside and gradually higher to the back. The construction area occupies only 180 m2, calculated so as not to affect the existing trees so that they create shade and help fresh air. For example, the roof has an umbrella to keep a star fruit tree.

The house space is simply divided. In front of the building is a large paved yard for parking. Up the steps is the lobby and living room. The kitchen is on a separate side, and the children’s dining and play areas are located in the center of the house. The living room uses wooden materials and old chairs.

The house has a total of three bedrooms, which are moved to the back to ensure privacy and avoid noise when the house is crowded. Each bedroom has a window opening to the garden.

At the end of the house, the architect arranged a playground bordering a small stone hill dedicated to the children in the house and the owner whenever they needed to read a book quietly.

The backyard is a relaxing place for both adults and children.

The whole house is built of red bricks without plaster. The roof is covered with red tile, the type of tile still used in the northern countryside.

The two sides of the house are dark black stone fence walls. These stones were taken during the excavation of the building’s foundation pillars and the leveling of the courtyards, reminiscent of the stone walls of the ethnic people in the mountainous area where the homeowners live.

Large windows bring light and wind into the house. Sitting in any position, occupants can also see a courtyard with big trees and stone walls. Rustic bricks, rough stone and green groves create a space that is both familiar and new, cohesive and peaceful for a small family.

The total cost of completing the project is about 1.5 billion VND.
