On the first day of Tet, people in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City go to pagodas to pray for their family’s safety. Due to the complicated Covid-19 pandemic, everyone observes distance, wears masks, and hopes when the government closes.

At Tran Quoc Pagoda ( Hanoi ), many people go on pagodas and spring trips on the morning of the 1st of the New Year. Everyone wears masks and follows the rules of Covid-19 disease prevention. Compared to last year, the number of people this year is less.

In 2022, the Hanoi People’s Committee was directed to suspend the organization of all kinds of festivals; stop the unnecessary gathering of people; strengthen disease surveillance in high-risk areas and areas; organize forces for prevention and control of epidemics to ensure timely handling of emerging situations.

Similarly at Quan Su Pagoda (Hoan Kiem District), a famous temple that is crowded with visitors every year during Tet, this morning it was less crowded. Most people keep their distance to worship to prevent the epidemic.

People worship and pray in the main hall of Quan Su pagoda. In the context that Covid-19 is still complicated, the biggest wish of many people in the new year is to have peace.

Phu Tay Ho is closed this year, people have to stand outside and pray.

The functional forces set up checkpoints, reminding people not to gather in large numbers in front of Tay Ho Palace.

In Ho Chi Minh City , in the first moment of the new year, many people went to Vinh Nghiem Pagoda, District 3 to offer incense to Buddha.
The temple is about 6,000 square meters, built-in 1964, is one of the famous spiritual tourist attractions in the city.

At 6 a.m., the Chinese community in District 5 also flocked to Ba Thien Hau Pagoda, Lang On to pray for peace. Unlike every year, they have to declare health, due to body temperature and scan green card before entering the gate.

A fence is built inside the temple for people to queue up orderly to wait for their turn to burn incense, limiting the spread of disease.

Many people buy oil for 20,000 each time for temple staff to pour into the candle tower. According to the Buddhist concept, offering oil lamps will bring light to your eyes, wisdom and clarity. Lamp oil is a symbol of wisdom, light and fire.

Chi Tran Huyen Trang (30 years old) released birds in front of the temple gate to make merit. “I have experienced 2021 with many difficulties. Hopefully, next year will be peaceful,” said Ms. Trang.
