During the past 16 years, a noodle shop in Nam Dinh city has kept the price of 0,2$ / bowl. Every day, the restaurant serves more than 500 customers.
Pho shop of Ms. Nguyen Thi Chung is located in a small alley on May 19, Te Xuong ward, city. Nam Dinh.
Opened in 2005, up to now, it has been nearly 16 years, but she still keeps the price of 0,2$ / bowl – the price that many customers consider “as cheap as giving”.
Small pho restaurant is only about 20m2 with a few simple tables and chairs, old food stalls … has become a familiar address for many people of Thanh Nam.
Every day, Ms. Chung sells about 350 bowls of pho for 0,2$ and about 200 bowls with the price from 0,5- 1$. The more expensive pho bowl is simply to have more rolls, sprouts, more meat, or maybe more eggs.
There are so many customers and the shop is small, so Chung has to add tables and chairs to the sidewalk. At peak, guests have to wait a long time to get a seat. “Sometimes, some customers cannot wait, so” get angry “and leave. But then tomorrow they will come”, Ms. Chung quickly made pho for the guests and shared.
Many people come to the noodle shop 0,2$ because they are curious, half-believing, do not know what the pho bowl will actually be. But after enjoying, most of them have the same comment “too delicious, too cheap”.
Talking about the secret to making pho 0,2$ but still so delicious, Ms. Chung honestly shared: “Broth is the most important factor to have a delicious noodle sale. In my shop, the broth is completely stewed from chicken bones. Every day I sell out a few dozen chickens and all the bones I do not leave but to make broth so it is so popular with many diners.
On average, Ms. Chung sells out 30-40 chickens every day, more than 1 quintal of pho bread and 3 pots of broth.
