Tay Yen Tu spiritual and ecological tourist area was born to recreate the path of cultivating Buddhism by Emperor Tran Nhan Tong (along the side of the West Yen Tu range from Vinh Nghiem Pagoda – Yen Dung, Ma Yen Pagoda, Hon Thap ( Cam Ly – Luc Nam), Ho Bac (Huyen Son – Luc Nam), Am Vai Pagoda (Nam Duong – Luc Ngan) …) on the basis of both exploiting and promoting rich value of resources ecological nature of the mountainous region of West Yen Tu. This is also the mode of tourism and the meaning of “Ecotourism and spirituality” West Yen Tu.

Coming to this place, visitors have the opportunity to learn more about Truc Lam Yen Tu’s Zen sect associated with the life of Buddha Emperor Tran Nhan Tong. Truc Lam Yen Tu Zen sect was formed in Dai Viet country around the middle of the thirteenth century. . He is also the great master passed on to the Buddha Emperor Tran Nhan Tong, who officially founded the Zen sect featuring Vietnamese Buddha on the basis of the three-Buddhist ideology system of Tindiocese, Vo Thong Ngon, Thao Duong in the last years 13th century.

Tran Nhan Tong is the eldest son of King Tran Thanh Tong, born in 1258, and was established as the Crown Prince at the age of 16. Being a devotee of Buddhism, he set out to practice very early. Legend has it that there was a time Tran Nhan Tong hid alone in Yen Tu to concentrate on taking refuge in the Dharma, but was discovered by his father, so he was reluctant to return to the capital city. At the age of 21, Tran Nhan Tong was crowned Emperor. Although he was in the throne, he was still very interested in meditation practice. When the Nguyen-Mong empire sent troops to invade Dai Viet, he promoted the idea of entering into the world, linking religion with life, conquering humanity, honoring talents, twice commanding to defeat the Nguyen-Mong invaders, preventing they descended into Southeast Asia.

With the inherent peaceful thought of Buddhism, Tran Nhan Tong implements a friendly peace policy with neighboring countries to build peaceful relations on the Buddhist foundation. In 1293, he ceded the throne to his son, Tran Anh Tong, and became Thai Thuong Hoang. In 1299, he left the capital city and entered Yen Tu mountain to focus on his spiritual practice. When he was passed on from Tue Sergeant, he collected and transmitted thoughts to thousands of disciples. After his death (1308) he was crowned Buddha, the first Patriarch of Truc Lam Yen Tu Zen sect for his merits in founding this Zen sect and unifying Dai Viet Buddhism.

Emperor Tran Nhan Tong is a king who fully understands Buddhism with the full spirit of compassion, ascending the throne while the country has foreign invaders, witnessing many tragic scenes of human life, he advocated. building a pure Vietnamese Zen sect in order to find a way of liberation for oneself, at the same time liberating others, gathering humanity in a single relationship, while helping to weather the culture, and the people to live a good life. religion, at the same time strengthening the bonds connecting the human heart in a time when the country is at war, in need of solidarity and concentration of strength.

As a king, he has another great responsibility to take care of the people and the country, not just himself. Therefore, to solve that “worry”, He took advantage of the position of a king, built a Zen sect to attract people, and at the same time became an exemplary model of practice for subjects follow. Building a religion but not because of that religion, but because of life. Thought and teachings of the Emperor Buddha most concentrated in the conclusion of the Abhidharma Path:

Tran Tran Lac Dao drop depending on the coast

The mechanics are not that miserable

The middle-right owner said that he was insignificant

For the mindless scene questioning Zen

(Meaning: In a happy life, please depend on the conditions / Go hungry, just eat, get tired, sleep / Search in the house / Do not ask for Zen in the heartless situation)

With that in mind, Buddhist Meditation blends into everyday life easily, because it is also a part of everyday life. Thanks to that, the Zen mind has the power to spread the influence in the society, helping the king to add a tool to educate the subjects, the country has a focal point for people’s hearts to gather, thereby creating the strength for unity the whole nation helps to partly shape the character of love for freedom, love of purity, peace, and respect for morality for the people of Dai Viet, who respect morality and love peace.
