Ly Son – the jewel of Quang Ngai land – owns up to two craters tens of millions of years old.

Located in An Hai commune, Thoi Loi peak is the highest mountain on Ly Son island with an altitude of 169 m above sea level. This peak has a history of formation from 5 long extinct volcanoes located in the east of Ly Son island. Thoi Loi is a unique landscape because there is both a freshwater lake on the top, a cave at the foot of the mountain and many archaeological sites submerged in the ground.

From a distance, Thoi Loi mountain stands out in the middle of the sea, from the bottom up is a wall of stone blocks of all shapes stacked on top of each other, covering the mountain. There is also a red flagpole with a yellow star on the top, which stands out against the blue sky.

The road to Thoi Loi mountain is relatively steep and winding, a bit difficult for first-timers to come here. From Ly Son port, it only takes 15 minutes by motorbike, you have reached the foot of the mountain. The walking path takes visitors from the flat land in the south to gradually climb to the top to reach the natural lake bed that looks like a giant funnel. This is the crater many millions of years ago that erupted lava creating the appearance of Re islet (big island), Ly Son island district today. Because it is the highest place on the island, when you reach the top of the mountain, you will be able to see the Ly Son garlic field in the beautiful season like a picture with many eye-catching colors.

If Thoi Loi mountain is only full of rocks, then Gieng Tien mountain located in An Vinh commune is filled with lush green all year round. This ancient volcano is 86 m high with a basin-shaped mouth up to hundreds of square meters. If you have the opportunity to see it from above, surely everyone will be overwhelmed by its unique shape.

Soil in Gieng Tien mountain is basalt red soil similar to the Central Highlands, often taken by Ly Son people to spread on the fields with sea sand, forming a layer of fertilizer to fertilize garlic. Thanks to the fertile soil, the flavor of Ly Son garlic is also special and famous throughout the country.

In January 2020, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism ranked national monuments for two scenic spots: Gieng Tien mountain (An Vinh commune) and Thoi Loi mountain (An Hai commune). These are 2 of the 10 most spectacular craters on Ly Son island.

If you have the opportunity to come here this summer, don’t forget to enjoy seafood, garlic specialties, check-in at these two unique craters, and other unspoiled destinations such as To Vo Gate, Cau Cave, Hang Pagoda. , Duc Pagoda, Be Island… Follow vnexpress
