NGHE AN – Mr. and Mrs. Dam Diet, 91 years old, from the Hung Nguyen district donated 100 million VND accumulated over many years to support the local Covid-19 prevention fund.
At the end of the year, in a flat roof house in Hong Phong hamlet, Hung Thong commune, Mr. Diet and his wife Le Thi Hong (83 years old) talked with neighbors who came to share their joy when they heard that their family had just supported the government with funds to fight the epidemic.
Mr. Diet said that he is a retired military doctor, so he understands the hardships of the medical team who have participated in the fight against Covid-19 recently. On the other hand, he was very grateful for the State’s epidemic prevention and control policy, especially the free vaccination campaign for the whole population.
“I want to join the local health force to fight the epidemic, but because I’m old, I can’t contribute, so I contribute 100 million VND from the savings book so that the commune has funds to maintain its operation,” said Mr. reasons for support.
On December 29, Mr. Diet presented his wife Le Thi Hong (83 years old) – a retired teacher with a wish to donate. With the approval of his wife, on the same day, the 91-year-old man walked more than a kilometer to the headquarters of the People’s Committee of Hung Thong commune to carry out the procedures.
Mr. Diet and his wife have 5 daughters (including 4 people working in the education sector) who are married outside the province. To date, they have 10 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Sometimes on holidays, New Year, and on weekends, children and grandchildren take advantage of the reunion.
According to Ms. Hong, her grandparents’ monthly living expenses are spent on her education salary, while Mr. Diet’s pension is accumulated.
“Supporting the prevention of Covid-19 is practical and meaningful, so I agree with my husband’s wish. Although the family economy is not yet rich,” Ms. Hong said.
Mr. Nguyen Huu Phuc, Chairman of the People’s Committee of Hung Thong commune, said that the day Mr. Diet came to do the support procedures, many people at the headquarters of the committee were surprised. Afraid that the old man would not be wise when deciding to support such a large amount of money, the commune official asked Mrs. Hong again and called to consult his first daughter.
“The job of Mr. Diet’s family is very meaningful, thanks to this money, the commune has more funds for epidemic prevention in the past and in the future,” said Mr. Phuc, saying that there had been no fish in the commune so far. Who supports such a large sum of money.
