BINH DINH – FOR THE PAST four years, Mr. Than has been going out to the garden every day to pull weeds, catch worms, take care of the rose garden with more than 300 roots, cover the yard, and the family’s 200 m2 garden.

Ms. Thai Thi Than was born in 1994, in Phung Son village, Phuoc Son commune, Tuy Phuoc District, Binh Dinh province. Four years ago, Mr. Trinh Hoang, his grandson brought his wife Pham Thi Kim Vui and children here from Saigon. Since then, the family of four generations has lived under the same roof.

Ms. Vui noticed that in the house there were a few female red rosemary plants that her grandmother looked at every day, and her parents-in-law were delighted when the tree blossomed and blossomed. Capital likes flowers, so the bride bought a few dozen more pots of roses to take care of.

At first, she took the garden soil and put it in a pot, causing the tree to die. Mr. Than saw that regretfully, teaching his niece-in-law to mix farmland, rice husks, peanut shells, sand, composted manure with lime, and a fungus treatment package, incubated for 15 days before planting. In this way, the anise is fast and healthy. Grandpa also told me, growing flowers in my garden should only use organic fertilizers and pesticides for safety.

Unable to buy big trees, the family just buys seedlings to take care of them. From where there are a few dozen types, the family branched out to multiply new trees, so far there have been more than 300 roots.

“Part of it is planted on 200 m2 of land at home, and a part is sent to a nearby temple. Because in the countryside, the cement pot is only 10,000 dong, so the family grows it all in pots,” said Ms. Vui, 38 years old.

Ms. Vui and her husband are busy running an electrical appliance store business, so Mr. Than takes care of the rose garden with one hand. Every day, after waking up with a full hat and scarf, he went for a walk around the garden, weeded the grass, and then came in for breakfast. This year is 107 years old, his hand is still as quick as “in the old days when spitting for points”.

He has a hobby of walking around the garden to see flowers, he cannot count how many times a day. Many times, children and grandchildren are afraid of falling, so they have to call in. Mr. Than is hard of hearing, so every time he calls the whole neighborhood, he listens.

Ms. Vui said, the funniest thing was that once when the two of them were gardening, the old woman stood up and was caught by pink thorns in her pants, so she raised her voice: “Who made fun of you and pulled my pants?”. He removed the thorns, but not all, walked a few steps, and brought the roots and roots with him. Feeling entangled, he turned around to find that the tree had been uprooted and replanted, the tree was still alive as if it had never been affected.

Since then, in addition to the persimmon plants, we are familiar with, in the garden appeared many types of hybrid roses, infrared yellow, orange, purple, red, and a variety of flower shapes that made adults in the house find it strange. Especially Mr. Than, every time he saw a strange flower color, a cupped shape, or a curly wing, he admired it.

“He looked at the beautiful flowers for a long time, and then wistfully said that in the past, it was not enough to run and eat, where to get beautiful flowers like this,” said Vui.

Since planting a clean rose garden, the family often takes dried buds and petals to make tea, combined with some types of leaves in the garden to cook daily drinking water.

Sometimes when flowers are in full bloom, Ms. Vui picks and distills rose water for mothers, children, and grandchildren to use. When his children sprayed it, he praised the perfume, but the frugality should be kept for young people to use.

Descendants said that even though he had no teeth, Mr. Than still liked to sip peanuts, roasted cashews, and eat rice, but didn’t like to eat porridge.

“Old people are sometimes like a lamp that is about to go out. There are days when Grandma is tired, in the middle of the night she still looks for things and cries like a child. Children and grandchildren gather to entice her to inject tonics and lull her to sleep, the next day she is healthy again.” , said Mr. Hoang, the great-grandson.

Mr. Than now has 4 children, 16 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren.

On holidays, the whole family often garden together and cut flowers to arrange vases. Every now and then, Ms. Vui, her mother-in-law and her grandmother go for a walk in the garden looking at flowers and leaves, laughing because the pots are full of the yard. At that time, Mr. Than said, “How can I leave this yard with such beautiful flowers when Grandma dies “, and then laughed.

“For the current family, the rose garden and Grandpa are the biggest joy every day,” said Ms. Vui. Follow vnexpress
