HANOI – He was so busy with business that he “didn’t have time to sleep” but once he saw the melon garden on the rooftop, Mr. Nguyen Xuan Toan “fell in love” so he decided to build his own garden.

In 2021, when he was still in his old house, Mr. Toan spent hundreds of millions of dong to build a synchronized garden but only had to sell the house after half a year due to the impact of Covid-19. After that, his family rented it, but in their hearts they only wished to have a garden soon.

“Born in a farming family, when I was young, I dreamed of getting rich and escaping a life of hands and feet in the mud. But all because of a photo of a melon garden, it completely changed,” said Mr. Toan, 37 years old. share.

A full year later, he bought a piece of land in the My Dinh area, Nam Tu Liem district. After more than half a year of construction, he also had a garden located on the 8th floor, with an area of about 60 m2.

The garden is invested synchronously with the criteria of helping business owners who often go on business trips, with little time to care, still have beautiful fruits and vegetables.

Mr. Toan invested in a smart pot system, integrating modern features with watering ports, organic fertilizer irrigation, heat sensor for mist cooling and automatic glass roof washing. The homeowner can control it directly or remotely via phone.

Mr. Toan arranged on the right side to plant climbing plants, on the left to plant tubers, and in the middle to plant vegetables and low-rise plants.

There are seasonal vegetables in the garden. Among them, he is especially fortunate to grow Japanese Vip cucumbers. In both planting seasons, he had a bumper harvest of several tens of kilograms, with fruits up to 30 cm long.

His experience lies in choosing good varieties, then setting aside the sunniest corner of the garden for planting. He always makes a neat trellis before sowing seeds. The most important thing is to always pay attention to care, water spring rolls with essential oil every week, and fertilize in stages. He watered the kitchen waste , helping the fruit grow quickly.

“Because I work like a child, when it comes to every harvest, I take scissors five or seven times to try to cut it but regret it,” he shared.

Previously, when he saw a beautiful vegetable garden, Mr. Toan thought it was “a family that has the means to either hire a gardener or use stimulants”. But when he experienced it, he knew he was wrong. “After a month of gardening, I realized that the conditions are really good, but if you don’t have passion and determination to work hard, you will never reap the rewards,” he said.

Because the garden is located on the 8th floor, even though there is an elevator, it still takes a lot of effort and effort to take care of. Especially in the first phase, you have to carry 400 bags of soil fertilizer from the 7th floor elevator through an iron staircase to the rooftop.

Up to now, the garden is an indispensable part of Mr. Toan’s life. Every day when he comes home from work, he goes to the garden to dig each bed of soil, fertilize, and then watch until midnight. In the beginning, his wife was angry because her husband loved the tree more than he loved her.

“But when she was able to eat clean fruits and vegetables and saw that her husband had given up all hobbies and was only addicted to the garden, she now supported her very much. My children also love the garden like their father,” said the father of three.

Gardening also brings Toan many other joys. That means meeting many friends with the same passion and winning awards for sharing gardening. Mr. Toan often shows off photos of his garden and shares his experiences because he wants to spread the word about this green, clean, and beautiful lifestyle.

“Since working in the garden, I have developed a tendency to show off. Not to show off my wealth or education, I just like to show off my fruits and vegetables,” he said.

And joy is also the greatest motivation because thanks to the garden, Mr. Toan has helped many difficult cases, such as 20 million VND for a cancer patient in Kien Giang, 60 million VND for four families with cancer. affected by flash floods in Lai Chau and is supporting this Tet to donate 100 sets of tables and chairs in Lai Chau. His way is to share about difficult circumstances. When friends support him, Toan will donate vegetables and fruits from his garden.

“When I didn’t have a garden, I planned to retire when I was 60 years old. Now I’m so addicted to plants that I just want to give it all up at 45 years old and go back to gardening,” he said.
