LONG AN – Tomb of General Nguyen Huynh Duc (Tan An City) – a supporter of Nguyen Anh, was built in 1819 intact to this day.

Tomb area of ​​general Nguyen Huynh Duc (1748 – 1819) has an area of ​​about 1,300 m2, located in Khanh Hau ward, Tan An city, Long An.

His real name is Huynh Tuong Duc, and he followed the lord Nguyen Anh to make many great achievements, so he was granted the surname of the king. Many times Nguyen Anh was defeated by the Tay Son army, he still pursued salvation, a loyalist. Once, he was captured by Tay Son army. Nguyen Hue wanted to be a servant because he loved talent and virtue, he refused, so after 3 years of refuge, he fled to Nguyen Lord.

When Nguyen Anh ascended the throne, took the title of King Gia Long, Nguyen Huynh Duc was appointed as a District Public, then became Governor of the North City. Six years later, he served as Governor-General of Gia Dinh and jointly governed the whole South. He was known as “Tiger General” by the world, was one of the pioneers of the Nguyen Dynasty.

The tomb of Nguyen Huynh Duc has a main view to the south, built of laterite and mixed stucco. The architectural plan is rectangular, 19 m wide and 35 m long. Around the tomb are ancient porcelain trees that create a serious look for the resting place of a great father.

The sentence at the entrance to the north grave is a screen of 3m high laterite, with embossed apricot-bud pattern. The 17 m long path leads from the screen to the main part of the tomb.

Tomb area of ​​the monolithic type, width 8.7 m, length 12 m. Architectural structures from outside to inside include: tomb door, front screen, shrine, tombstone, tomb and rear screen. Surrounded are the walls of the wall combining the lotus buds.

Stone tombstone carved by Ngu Hanh Son is 1.55 m high, 0.9 m wide, embossed with delicate patterns of the sun, flowers, leaves, dragon phoenix …

Behind the stele is the burial place of Nguyen Huynh Duc’s body with a flat grave 3.4 m long, 2.7 m wide, and 0.3 m high. Behind the grave is the rear screen, which closes the tomb architecture. On the posterior screen, there is an essay that King Gia Long himself approved to remember the merits of a great master who gave birth to death.

About 200 meters from the grave is Nguyen Huynh Duc temple. The entrance to the temple is located towards the street bearing his name.

Nguyen Huynh Duc Temple was built by his family in 1959, for convenience of worship. The new temple has four-pillars, 2-storey roof, roofed with tile, wooden door looking east.

Inside the temple, there is a incense carving of dragons, phoenixes, and yellow lacquered flowers, and above there is a painting of the Vietnamese god Nguyen Huynh Duc which was painted in 1802. In the temple, there are still some memorabilia associated with the “tiger general” such as the seat, inauguration order, hammock … and the dignitaries and jars bestowed by the Nguyen Kings.

The hood of General Nguyen Huynh Duc used during his lifetime, was carefully preserved in a glass case at the shrine. The hammock was the means of transportation of the feudal mandarin. Under the Nguyen Dynasty, mandarins were not allowed to use palanquin (only for kings), but only used hammocks with hoods.

The inauguration of King Gia Long’s order to Nguyen Huynh Duc in 1819 was still carefully preserved by his family.

The memorial house and reception are located next to Nguyen Huynh Duc Temple. Here hang pictures of the mausoleum with stories, ancient stories about the status, career … of the general declared the national princess of the Nguyen Dynasty. In 1993, all the above relics were recognized by the Ministry of Culture and Information as “National-level historical monuments”.
