Looking at the impressive set of pictures of the journeys on the mobihome – the “mobile home” of Mr. and Mrs. Huynh Ly Hung (Photographer, My Tho), few would have expected… Mr. Hung renovated it from an old Suzuki Wagon car, 16 – 17 years of use.

In early July 2020, Hung and his wife and 8-month-old son had their first trip on a “mobile home”.

The young father shared: the whole family went from My Tho to Tri An Lake, Phan Thiet, Da Lat, Vung Tau in 10 days. The journey back and forth is nearly 1,700 km long, with a gas cost of 1.4 million VND.

The car has full facilities, so a small family can stop the car at any natural beauty they want. “Arriving at a place with beautiful scenery, my wife and I stopped the car, set up camp, cooked together, enjoyed the scenery, played with our children and took pictures. The feeling is very free. If the weather is bad or worried about safety, I rent it. homestay nearby”, he said.

The car has enough beds, cabinets, shelves, and showers, so it’s quite convenient to both travel and takes care of your 8-month-old son.

“Many people think that an 8-month-old baby can’t feel the joy of travel and taking them here and there will only make them tired. But in fact, our baby is very happy and polite. The daily routine is not affected much by the trips,” said Mr. Hung.

According to Mr. Hung, due to being exposed to many different environments, the boy is very bold, sociable, and has a good sense of nature. Trips stimulate children’s curiosity and curiosity.

“Before the serious outbreak of the Covid-19 epidemic, my family often went on picnics and travel to places like Da Lat, Phan Thiet… When the epidemic hit, many plans had to be temporarily postponed. On the other hand, the whole family is a bit sad,” Hung shared.

Talking about the reason for making the mobihome, Mr. Hung said: Since he was not married, he and his wife have traveled everywhere together by motorbike.

However, Mr. Hung is afraid that traveling by motorbike is not safe and convenient, especially when there are small children. Since then, he cherished making a mobihome to take his wife and children to travel everywhere without worrying about the weather and less arranging messy things.

In 2017, Mr. Hung researched and bought an old Suzuki Wagon car, with an age of up to 16 – 17 years for 90 million VND. To ensure safety when using, he took the car to the workshop “overhauled” the whole: inspecting equipment, renovating the engine system, electricity, shock absorbers, soundproofing, insulation, replacing the chassis…

“The whole engine part is replaced with new parts. The parts of this car are still produced, the price is very affordable, so the replacement is not difficult”, Mr. Hung said.

After “overhauling” the car, due to limited finances, and also wanting a “second home” with his own style, Mr. Hung went online to find out and refer to how to make the interior. After nearly a year of “removing – installing”, “fixing up and down”, the car is also complete with enough beds, cabinets, shelves, and showers. The cost to renovate the car is only 60 million VND.

Hung said that the interior can be disassembled at will, so registration is not difficult. When traveling on the road, the family sits in the driver’s seat, passenger seat, and fastens seat belts in accordance with regulations.

“Of course, the car is old and it’s my first time doing a mobihome, so there are many limitations,” Hung shared. Once, when the family went to Mui Yen (Binh Thuan), the car sank into the sand, unable to move.

If at that time there was not a group of friends passing by and enthusiastically supporting, Hung’s family would have been “stuck”. “Since then, I have considered that I will accumulate and buy a newer, stronger and safer car to realize my dream of crossing Vietnam,” Hung said.
