About Buu Phong pagoda
To Dinh Buu Phong is an ancient pagoda belonging to the Bac Tong sect located on Binh Dien mountain, right behind Tran Bien temple , near Buu Long tourist area , in Tan Buu commune, far from the center of Bien Hoa city, Dong Nai province. about 5km to the Northwest and about 30km from Ho Chi Minh city to the East.
Up to now, there have been no documents recording the exact year of the formation of the pagoda, the only thing that gives suggestion is two wooden columns in the middle of the lecture hall with the words Binh Thin and 1616. However, the year 1616 did not must be in the lunar year of the Dragon, so there are many assumptions made about the year when the pagoda was opened.
Someone said that, in 1616, a monk bearing the name Phap Thong came to this mountain to practice and build a small house. Then in 1679, a group of Chinese soldiers who came to Dong Nai for refugees stayed here, so rebuilt with solid bricks and invited monk Thanh Tri to the abbot.
