Photos of Hoi An cuisine, a morning at Dong Van market… by Vietnamese authors who won many international awards in 2021
At the end of January, the international Black and white photography contest (Monochrome Photography Awards) announced the results, including many winning works by Vietnamese photographers. The contest attracted more than 7,000 authors from 91 countries and territories to submit their works.
Photographer Le Viet Khanh won 3rd prize in Architecture theme with the work of Buddha statue on the top of Indochina . The author shared that when he took the photo, he captured the rare moment when the misty clouds carried by the wind were surrounding the top of the mountain, the clouds were not too thick so he could still see the work clearly. This is a bronze Buddha image located in the spiritual complex at the top of Fansipan mountain in Sa Pa (Lao Cai).
The photo Drying scads taken at Long Hai Market, Ba Ria – Vung Tau by author Khanh Phan won the Open (Open) Travel Photo category of the Sony World Photography Awards 2021 (SWPA). For the female photographer, this is a memorable experience in her photography life and each winning photo is a “tourist ambassador” for Vietnam.
SWPA takes place every year from 2012 until now, Khanh Phan is the first and only Vietnamese author to win the Open Prize. This year’s contest received more than 330,000 photos from authors from 220 countries and regions around the world.
At the end of June, Khanh Phan’s painting ” Picking water lilies” ranked third overall at the MIPA Travel Award (Malta International Photo Award). The work is the result of the female photographer’s discovery trip to Kien Tuong, Moc Hoa, Long An at the end of 2020.
Breakfast at the market taken in Dong Van, Ha Giang by Nguyen Huu Thong won the first prize in the Food at the Table category of the Pink Lady Food Photography Contest. The author said that the Dong Van rocky plateau attracts tourists from the landscape to the cultural and culinary life. Highland people often go to markets to exchange goods, so get up early to go to the market and have breakfast.
Along with the Pink Lady award, the photo ” Enjoy” by author Tran Viet Van won the first prize in the Street Food category, taken in Hoi An ancient town . In addition to the experience of visiting the old houses, visitors also enjoy street food. Quang noodles, Cao Lau, bread, to pho, lotus tea… are dishes not to be missed when coming to Hoi Street.
The work Feeding ducks by Nguyen Phuoc Hoai, taken on Tra O lagoon, Phu My, Binh Dinh won the second prize in the Food in the Field category. Tra O, also known as Chau Truc, is a natural brackish lagoon located in the northeast of Phu My district.
All About Photo (AAP) is an annual photo contest of AAP Magazine that has been taking place for the past 6 years, bringing together photographers from around the world to submit entries. In addition to the main prizes, at the end of May, the contest announced 34 honorary photos – exhibition and printed in AAP Magazine special issue.
Among the works selected for the exhibition is ” The Heart of the Sea” by photographer Nguyen Phuoc Hoai capturing the scene of casting a fishing net in the early morning in Phu Yen. The author shared: “Seen from above, the net is thrown into the shape of a heart. For the fishermen here, catching a boat full of fish and shrimp is not only happiness but also a natural gift given to them.” .
Photographer Pham Huy Trung’s work Harvesting grass won the first prize in the category of aerial photography (drone), and also won the 35AWARDS final award announced in mid-May.
The second prize in the 35AWARDS aerial photography category was catching fish in the early morning by Nguyen Ngoc Thien (HCMC) – capturing a fishing boat pulling nets during the anchovy fishing season in the waters of Tuy Hoa, Phu Yen.
Mr. Thien said that in May-August every year, boats in Phu Yen bustling to sea using seine nets to catch anchovies. The “dance” of nets in the sea has different shapes, which is an interesting subject for photographers to create.
Drone Photo Awards, a photo contest that stands out and often receives the most entries from the Siena Awards system, announced the results in early September. Vietnamese photographer Pham Huy Trung won the first prize in the category of People. with the work Fishing in the Mangrove .
