Hai Ly Fall Church (Hai Hau – Nam Dinh) also has another name called “Heart Church” built in 1943 and designed by a French architect.
In 1996, the sea began to encroach on land more than 1km long. That invasion made the village that stretched along Xuong Dien beach disappear.
Some large structures on the sea such as churches have been “swallowed” by the waves. But only the Church of St. Maria Madalena is still there and has not been knocked down by the waves, but it is not intact as before.
This is the Heart Church (Xuong Dien Parish) and the foundation of the old St. Maria Madalena church was invaded by seawater and destroyed the architecture.
Currently for conservation, local authorities and people have built embankments around the fallen church, turning this into a souvenir photo spot attracting many people from other places.
However, because the church has deteriorated, many items have collapsed, the entire area of the church has been built with fences, preventing visitors from approaching.

The motifs and architecture inside the church have been worn away. Brick was exposed after a period of mortar breakage.
With the encroachment of the sea, the poet collapsed, although it was firmly embankment, but did not know when it existed.

The foundation vestiges of a former magnificent and splendid church still remain.
After being invaded by sea water and breaking the foundation, in 2005, priests and local people had to leave the church, deep inside to build a new church to live.
