Farmers have placed bamboo braces around the flower pots to orient the flower branches to grow straight. Some farmers here said that at this time, flowers must rely on electric light to have the speed of reaching high branches and flowering as expected.
Having been taught the flower growing profession by his father, Mr. Quoc Dat (39 years old) said that this year he planted 800 pots of chrysanthemums. He invested about 4 million VND in the automatic light system with 60 light bulbs.
The flower tree was fed electricity by Mr. Dat around the 8th lunar month. It is expected that in the middle of the 11th lunar month, he will “cut off” the flower’s electricity.
“The use of lights to make flowers not sleep,” Mr. Dat emphasized and explained that chrysanthemums are heat-resistant flowers, the current 8 hours of sunlight/day is not enough for the flowers to grow and develop at their maximum. early flowering. Keeping the lights on overnight is to give the flowers more light.
According to Mr. Dat, keeping the lights on all night also helps flowers continuously receive energy from light for photosynthesis, thereby creating hard stems. When farmers “cut off” the electricity, the flowers will begin to age and form buds in time for Tet.
Around the beginning of the 12th lunar month, when picking buds, traders begin to come to the garden to deposit flowers.
According to Mr. Dat’s calculations, the electricity cost for lighting the flower fields is about 300,000-400,000 VND/month. But in return, this is the biggest flower crop of the year, so everyone expects flowers to be of high quality and price so that farmers can have a warm and full Tet.
