Nguyen Hue Walking Street is located on Nguyen Hue Street – the central street in District 1, Ho Chi Minh City, connecting the City People’s Committee Headquarters with Bach Dang wharf and the Saigon River.

In 1790, this place was an important canal leading water from Saigon River into Gia Dinh citadel, called Kinh Lon. It is also sometimes called the Cho Vai Kinh because the Indian cloth trade is quite bustling here. Until admiral Charner – who issued regulations restricting the territory of this city to govern, he changed the name to Charner canal.
Time after that, the amount of goods transported was so large that the canal was heavily polluted, so the French had to fill the canal and rename it Charner Avenue. In 1959, the government of the Republic of Vietnam renamed this road to Nguyen Hue Avenue and it is used until now.

Nguyen Hue Walking Street has a length of 670m, width of 64m, with a total construction cost of nearly 430 billion VND, was inaugurated on the occasion of 30/4/2015 after 7 months of construction with 2 sections: Monument Park President Ho Chi Minh from Le Thanh Tong Street (in front of the Head Office of Ho Chi Minh City) to Le Loi Street and Nguyen Hue Square from Le Loi Street to Ton Duc Thang Street.
