On the trip back to the coastal city the next day, Ms. Hong’s family will visit Phat Da pagoda (also known as Lo Gach pagoda), Dong Ho lagoon, and rent a boat to Hai Tac island.

“Coming to Ha Tien, my family always likes to ride a buggy to visit scenic spots at night because there is no smoke and no noise. This car is also known as the ‘king’ car, a car carrying 4 people to visit with unlimited time and place but the price is only 50,000 VND/person. The driver is also knowledgeable about local tourism, so the guide is very enthusiastic,” said Ms. Hong.

During the day, Ha Tien has few buggies running on the street because it is sunny. From about 5pm, nearly 100 buggies with decorative lights are parked waiting for guests at tourist spots and accommodation establishments. The people who run the rickshaws do not entice guests, dedicated to shuttle and the price of the sightseeing bus service is agreed upon.

Driver Trinh Thanh Phong said he has been driving a buggy for 4 years, peak income is sometimes more than a million dong/night. On empty nights due to the rain, this 30-year-old driver only earns about 200,000 VND.

According to Mr. Phong, a few years ago the tourism industry in Ha Tien had not yet developed, so there were only a few buggies parked at the seafood market to transport fish and shrimp to the car to help tourists. Currently, Ha Tien is an ideal destination for tourists on every holiday and weekend, so the buggy has developed nearly 100 units to serve the tourism industry.

“At night, I drive a buggy, during the day I work as an assistant or make fried fish balls. We are still young, so we have to work hard to get more income, and just introduce the tourist image of Ha Tien to tourists”, Mr. Phong shared.

Another driver, Nguyen Thanh Sang (28 years old), said that in the past, the buggy ran spontaneously. To serve tourists in a “methodical” way, the local government has established a tourist buggy cooperative to protect the interests of its members.

“Every day I work as a helper, and at night I drive a buggy to carry tourists, so my income is quite stable. We invest about 20 million VND in a buggy,” said Mr. Sang.

Through observation, the reporter found that the tourist buggy in Ha Tien has many different designs, each carrying 4 adults and 2 children (not including the driver). The traditionally designed buggies behind have a cushioned bench for guests to sit back like “king”; The two people in front sit on the stainless steel tank, facing forward to admire the scenery.

Some buggies are more elaborately designed to attract the attention of tourists. Those are cars with a rear trunk designed in a circle like a pumpkin, with 2 cushioned seats, carrying 4 adults and 2 children. In addition, the car is equipped with an audio device that plays songs about the homeland of Kien Giang so that visitors can enjoy music while enjoying the scenery along the two sides of the road.

Upgrading Ha Tien tourism infrastructure

Mr. Bui Quoc Thai, Director of the Department of Tourism of Kien Giang province, said that not only domestic tourists but also Western tourists also like to experience the buggy in Ha Tien because they are transported around the coastal city in the fresh and cool air. at night.

According to Mr. Thai, in addition to the buggy, the tourism industry will jointly develop more electric vehicles with the locality so that one vehicle can carry many tourists at the same time.

The leader of the Kien Giang tourism industry also said that in the future Ha Tien will have another bridge, built at the old floating bridge to break the unique position of the To Chau bridge located next to the current Fort.

“During a working trip with Kien Giang province in early March, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh agreed to allow the locality to build more bridges in Ha Tien. This bridge has a capital of about 500 billion VND , 50% is supported by the Central Government, and the rest is from the province. Authorities are promoting the bridge construction procedures to facilitate the circulation of goods, develop tourism infrastructure and serve national security,” said Mr. Bui Quoc Thai.

As for the national highway 80 from Rach Gia to Ha Tien, there are many degraded sections, causing difficulties for tourists. Kien Giang province has proposed that the Central Government assign management rights to Kien Giang province to soon be upgraded and repaired.

“This route is managed by the Ministry of Transport, so it is slow every time to repair, send documents and wait for a response. The Prime Minister has agreed to hand it over to the province to manage, so the upgrade will be quick. The province allocates the budget to build a road to serve tourism infrastructure, and the road to Mui Nai is also being upgraded. Ha Tien will develop in the near future because there is a sea encroachment area”, a leader of the Kien Giang Department of Tourism shared.

Along with the development of tourism infrastructure in Ha Tien, this local international border gate is also invested by the authorities of Kien Giang province in accordance with the standards and aesthetics, creating conditions for bilateral tourism development and communication. commodity trade between Vietnam and Cambodia.

According to the plan of the tourism industry of Kien Giang province, this year the locality is expected to attract 5.2 million visitors, including 200,000 international visitors.
