Kon Ha Nung Plateau Biosphere Reserve with an area of ​​more than 410,000 hectares, including two core areas, Kon Ka Kinh National Park and Kon Chu Rang Nature Reserve.

This place has a relatively intact closed forest ecosystem with high biodiversity, typical for the forest ecosystem, forest flora, and fauna of the Central Highlands.

The reserve has 863 species of plants belonging to 547 genera and 160 families. According to the Vietnam Red Book in 2007, there are 22 species of trees in Kon Chu Rang Nature Reserve mentioned, accounting for 2.55% of the total species of the regional flora and 5.13% of the tiered plant species. vascular high in the Red Book of Vietnam.

Vertebrate wildlife (mammals, amphibians, and reptiles) has 380 species. Of which, 80 species of mammals, 228 species of birds, 38 species of reptiles… 64 species of vertebrate wildlife are on the list of species that need to be prioritized for conservation at national and international levels.

Particularly in Kon Chu Rang Nature Reserve, there are 12 waterfalls over 15m high in the middle of primeval forest, like the pristine Kpung waterfall.

K50 Waterfall (also known as Hang En) – located in Kon Chu Rang nature reserve. K50 waterfall has a height of more than 50 m, is considered one of the most beautiful waterfalls in the Central Highlands, behind the waterfall is a large cave which is the home of thousands of forest swallows.

The ecological observatory is 50 m high, located in the middle of the Kon Chu Rang nature reserve.

In the forest core area (cow farm), there are 17 households of Ba Na people living, their main source of income is livestock and other forest resources.

Biosphere reserves will be living laboratories for research, education, training, and monitoring of ecosystems, benefiting local, national, and international populations.

UNESCO’s recognition of Vietnam’s biosphere reserves shows the international community’s recognition of Vietnam’s biodiversity values ​​as well as its efforts to conserve nature and develop sustainably. This is also an opportunity to contribute to promoting the image of Vietnam’s country, people, and culture to the world.

The Vietnam – Russia Tropical Center is located in the Kon Chu Rang nature reserve.

Mr. Trinh Viet Ty, director of the management board of Kon Chu Rang Nature Reserve, said that all five villages in the buffer zone were contracted to protect the forest. In addition to patrolling and controlling, the forest protection force uses drones and software integrated into mobile phones to equip and train specialized staff to manage and protect forests more effectively.

However, forest protection officers still face many difficulties in terms of living conditions, lurking dangers (falling trees, insect bites, terrorist loggers …), in addition, officers do not have, or with low allowance, an average salary of 3.5 million dongs a month. Mr. Ty suggested that the government should have a preferential policy to attract talented people to work in special-use forests in general.

In the period 2000-2020, Vietnam has been recognized with a total of 11 world biosphere reserves, becoming the country with the second-largest number of biosphere reserves in Southeast Asia, after Indonesia with 19. area.
