Hundreds of kumquat roots grafted with bamboo shoots have been created by Hanoi garden owners to create unique new products, serving the needs of Tet customers for many years, with revenue each season of about 400 million VND.

Mr. Nguyen Tien Duc’s garden (Bac Tu Liem district, Hanoi) has about 500 kumquat trees. The special thing is that these are all kumquat pots grafted with celery trees, bringing high economic value.
He has been passionate about growing ornamental plants for nearly 30 years. Although there were times when he had difficulty bringing grafted ornamental kumquat products to customers, it was his passion and perseverance for the profession that brought him success. The most demanding customers come to the kumquat garden.
“A while ago, I visited a friend who worked at the forestry and agricultural institute and happened to see a book that recorded lemons, oranges, tangerines, grapefruits, kumquats, and kumquats in the same tree family. Thanks to that friend. advised on grafting trials to see how it turned out, and since 1992, I started having the first grafted tree products,” Mr. Duc explained the idea of grafting two kumquat trees and celery.
“That day, I even sold the tree at exhibitions but received no attention, many people did not believe that those two trees could be grafted. Until recent years, the market began to emerge. The need to play with grafted trees, my products have reached many people. One friend even joked that I was ahead of my time,” Mr. Duc confided.
Mr. Duc’s garden has all kinds of kumquat pots of different sizes and sizes. It is known that the selling price at the garden also varies, from a few million VND to the most expensive tree at 60 million VND/root. The outside selling price can be up to hundreds of millions for a beautiful pot of transplanted kumquats.
Mr. Duc selected the big-rooted, ancient-looking celery trees from the South to Hanoi at a price of 12-15 million VND for 1 embryonic root.
As someone who has been involved in grafting two varieties of kumquat and kumquat varieties for many years, Mr. Duc also witnessed the moment when the kumquat tree bloomed, something that few people encounter, and saved those moments through photos.
For a skilled craftsman like Mr. Duc, it takes about 3 years from buying the embryos, grafting the tree to creating the shape before selling it to the market.
Taking care of plants that produce flowers, large fruits, and green leaves requires experience, but grafting plants so that they are beautiful and grow well shows the level and eye of the grower.
The quality kumquat pots in Mr. Duc’s garden produce many large fruits ranging in size from 4-5cm.
The stick also carries the meaning of diligence and the desire to advance, so customers like to buy it for work as a gift or keep it in offices and desks.
Many potted plants were pre-ordered by customers and Mr. Duc carefully marked each pot’s name.
In addition, in his garden, Mr. Duc also serves customers mini potted plants that cost only a few hundred thousand VND but have many meanings and are convenient to decorate on the desk.
It is known that the revenue at Mr. Duc’s garden during Tet last year was about 400 million VND, this year he also hopes to reach 500 million VND or at least equal to last year.
