Ninh Binh Lau Vien is one of the attractive tourist attractions in the buffer zone of Trang An Scenic Landscape and is also a small part of Tam Coc – Bich Dong. Down the river Ngo Dong to Tam Coc boat wharf, visitors will be lost in a peaceful village scene in the land of Hoa Lu.

Co Vien Lau includes many old house folds collected in Ninh Binh and Northern Delta region. The houses here were mainly built from the Nguyen dynasty but still retain the typical architectural features that strongly express the Vietnamese cultural identity. This relic is like a miniature version of the village of Bắc Bộ and hides many folklore features. Co Vien Lau old house is located on the side of the road to Thai Vi and is next to Tam Coc boat station.

History of Co Vien Ninh Binh Floor
Co Vien Lau was officially rebuilt in 1990 in Ninh Hai, Hoa Lu, Ninh Binh. This area was formerly an ancient village called Phung Chua which existed for more than 1000 years under the Dinh – Le dynasty. Due to the constant destruction of the war, the village was fading away.

Explanation Co Vien Lau means an old garden house. The village owner always wants to be restored so that he can preserve the unique cultures in the ancient capital Hoa Lu. The entire village has a total area of 22,000 m2, the West borders the Ngo Dong River, the East borders the road to Thai Vi, the North borders the valley of Cua Quen Mountain and the South is near Tam Coc wharf.

Co Vien Village ancient village gathers more than 20 ancient houses, all of which have typical Vietnamese architecture from the seventeenth to twentieth centuries. After reconstruction, this village still has communal houses, welcome houses, people’s houses, village streets, village gates, … Old houses are built close together and divided into two main types: houses poor and rich. The poor house was inhabited by the old peasantry, but the people who served the higher class. The village communal house is located in the middle of the village. According to the owner of the village, this is a communal house in the village of Thanh Liem (Ha Nam) with an age of more than 150 years. After that, he was taken back to Vien Vien Lau. The communal house has 7 compartments, lots of columns and soaring roofs. Around the communal house there are many porches. Dinh Thanh Lien includes: Ta Mon, Dinh village, Huu Mon, large communal courtyard for exchange, community activities of the old Vietnamese. This temple still retains what was original before being brought back to be preserved in Co Vien Lau .

Village construction materials are mainly used from wood, the upper part is tiled with fish scales. The most used wood for building is ironwood and there are some other types of wood such as oval, gasoline, … Inside the communal house, columns and trusses are carved fine details and patterns by artisans. The architectural highlight of the pattern on the wood is the lotus flower.
In the rich house, there are many spacious old houses built, surely collected from provinces such as Hai Phong, Ninh Binh, Thanh Hoa. The houses all own very unique architecture, each with its own design is not the same. There is a house with 5 compartments, 2 fruits, 2 of course. Some houses have 3 compartments, 2 left with curved roof soaring like a communal house.

Most of the houses in the rich house of Co Vien Lau are modern over 100 years old. The owner of the old village has spent a lot of effort, effort and time to bring these old houses to display here. The oldest house is Ninh Son ancient house with over 350 years old, Ninh Xuan old house has existed for more than 200 years.
If you look closely at the details on the roofs of the works of Ninh Binh Co Vien, you will notice the multifaceted variation of many colors and ideas. From mascots such as four precious trees (Tung, Cuc, Truc, Mai), Long, Phung, … are arranged harmoniously, reasonably and of high artistic character.
