Legend of Ba Lat Nam Dinh door

The legend of Ba Lat Nam Dinh gate always hides thrilling and mysterious stories. It is often said by word that the name of the Ba Lat gate originated from the corpses of starving people in the 1945 when they were not buried, they had to tie up 3 bamboo strips and drift off to the Red River to reach the great grave in the East Sea. Many others told that the name Ba Lat came from ancient times when the river mouth was divided into 3 small branches, not as it is now. Some other records say that Ba Lat is an old village name.

According to historical records, until the 18th century, the Ba Lat estuary was still a small branch when the main branch was the So river with 2 Lan and Dutch gates. In 1787, a great flood flooded and opened the Ba Lat gate into a big gate while the So River was filled. That event has been recorded by history as “Ba Lat broke the association” with many fields and gardens disappeared when the fertile soil appeared.

Ba Lat estuary has a very complicated flow with many erratic changes. Each year, this place has certain changes, not a year like any other year. At the mouth of the sea, there are many flooded forests, many deep swirling places. The place adjacent to the sea and river, between salt water and fresh water has created a rich brackish water ecosystem with very characteristic reddish-brown alluvium. Since then, the mangrove forests are immense and lush, such as parrots, mangroves, tiger trees with rich flora and fauna.

From the North bank, there is Vam (Thai Binh), which owns many areas for aquaculture, fishing and Vanh islet eco-tourism. Bo Nam has Lu – Nam Dinh islet with Giao Thuy National Park – where many species choose to live and develop rare birds. The mouth of Ba Lat Nam Dinh - the lighthouseBa Lat lighthouse
