More than 100 million years old ‘beehive’ stream in Gia Lai

GIA LAI – Stream is likened to Ghenh Da Dia on land when there are many hexagonal-shaped stone pillars next to each other to look like a giant “beehive”.

This stream and rocky beach is in Van village, in Ialy town, Chu Pah district, Gia Lai province. The Jrai people around the area call this place Jrai Pha (jrai means waterfall, pha means pool). Some visitors also call it Da Dia stream because this place is shaped like Da Dia Ghenh, a special national monument in Tuy An district, Phu Yen province.

According to a representative of the Heritage Management Department, Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Gia Lai province, the stream is located between La Phi commune and Yaly town, flows through many villages of the Jrai people before emptying into the reservoir of the Aquatic Plant. The rocky beach has hundreds of hexagonal-shaped stone columns, which are arranged side by side, looking from above, this place looks like a giant stone “beehive”. According to geologists, in terms of form, the rock at the stream passing through Van village is similar to Ghenh Da Dia, which is over 100 million years old.

Knowing that the province has ancient rock fields, Ms. Bich Van (57 years old) rode a motorbike about 140 km from An Khe town to Chu Pah district to admire the stream. “The Central Highlands is entering the rainy season, so the water in the stream is mixed with red soil that looks a bit cloudy, but still has its own beauty. Currently, Gia Lai Provincial People’s Committee has issued a document to assign relevant units and Chu Pah District People’s Committee to survey and assess the current status of the ancient rock area, ecological environment in the area of ​​Van village, Yaly town and nearby areas with rocky streams flowing through to propose protection solutions if they are included in the ranking of relics, exploiting for tourism in combination with destinations such as Yaly Hydroelectricity, Chu Dang Ya volcano…
