Mui Nghe – natural swimming pool in the middle of the sea

DA NANG – This is a wild place and has not been exploited for tourism, so it still retains the original beauty of nature.

Mui Nghe is located on the east side of Son Tra peninsula, Da Nang. Not far from the city center (about 10 km) but this place is not too popular with tourists because the road is quite difficult. Some people know this place because the backpackers passed it on. The other part is led by locals who know the nooks and crannies to explore.

The shape of the cliff resembles a Nghe (mythical animal in Vietnamese culture, a combination of the lion and the dog, often used as a mascot in front of the gates of temples, shrines and shrines in Vietnam).
The shape of the cliff resembles a Nghe – a mythical animal in Vietnamese culture, a variation of the word lion and a dog, often used as a mascot in front of communal houses, temples, and shrines.

The reason for the name Mui Nghe is because the cliff here is shaped like a clam, the head is facing the mountain and the body is facing the sea. If you experience traveling by waterway here, you will see very clearly that the “Neighbor” gradually appears in the middle of the sea.

To get to Mui Nghe, you will be floating on a boat for more than an hour. Because there is no bridge or sandy shore and the water is shallow, the boat has to anchor quite far from the rocky beach. You must continue to move by SUP or basket boat because the waves are quite strong. Once you have reached the beach, it takes you another 10-15 minutes to cross the bumpy stone road to reach the natural lake of Mui Nghe. This stretch is not long but quite difficult to move and you have to be very careful not to slip or trip.

However, as soon as you reach this “paradise in the middle of the sea”, you will forget all previous fatigue. A blue lake, clear to the bottom appears before your eyes, surrounded by mountains and cliffs on all four sides. Sea waves cannot hit this area directly but only create enough gentle ripples.

You can experience swimming in the clear blue water as much as you like. The area is small, but there are quite a few fish and some coral here. If you dive a little, you can see very close, even touch the fish. After swimming, go back to the rock, enjoy beer and snacks, and enjoy the feeling of “chill” with friends. Many people also bring fishing rods and try their hand at fishing in the middle of the sea.

Composing super beautiful life photos in this wild place is not to be missed.

The best thing when coming to Mui Nghe is the feeling of peace, not being noisy because there are very few tourists. It’s rare to find a place as beautiful as this with so few people. And surely you will find this moment of being immersed in the cool blue water, blending in with this immense nature is extremely precious.

Because the road is quite arduous, you should not stay too long in the lake area but need to return early, preferably before 4pm. If anyone wants to watch the sunrise, they can climb up to the ground above to set up a tent and sleep overnight. But you must prepare enough items, food and drink to be able to stay because there are no services here.

Mui Nghe is very beautiful and unique but not suitable for those who like to travel and relax. So before deciding to come here, you must be very careful and prepare yourself with enough health and skills to cross the forest, climb rocks, climb slopes… Especially never be subjective when moving. It is best to have a local who knows the route to avoid getting lost or encountering unexpected problems.

To enter Mui Nghe, either paddle SUP or take a basket boat of the locals.

Note when going to Mui Nghe:

There are two ways to travel by road or water to get to Mui Nghe. Either way, there are sections that are quite difficult and dangerous to go to, so you have to be very careful.

There is no travel service to Mui Nghe and you have to bring your own food and water.

The lake in Mui Nghe has a lot of oysters clinging to the rocks, so it is necessary to prepare beach sandals to avoid being cut by oysters or sharp rocks.

Should bring a life jacket if you do not know how to swim.

Check the weather before going and should go in the dry season, the sea is calm (from March to August).
