Spending 10 billion VND turns the French villa into the unique Cham Pa space in Hanoi

A special work called Co Dam has a unique Cham Pa architectural style located on Tran Hung Dao Street, Hoan Kiem District (Hanoi). The total area of the work is 680m2, including 4 floors.

This place used to be an ancient French architectural style villa changed by the owner and architect with the desire to bring an architectural space that blends the mystery of the Cham Pa culture and the tranquility. absolute Buddhism.

The welcome gate simulates the entrance to the typical Cham temples. The apical roof shape is a small stylized part of a lotus petal with a height of 4.5m. With dome-shaped design creates unique visual effects.

The dome form will penetrate inside to create a sense of unity in space.

To make these domes, the design and construction team had to create an iron frame system, and the craftsmen built bricks on those skeletons and frameworks.

The special thing lies in the rusticness of the red color from baked bricks is the main material that creates the impressive arches.

Red brick originated in Ninh Thuan – the home and residence of many Cham people. When heated at a certain temperature, the brick has a bright red color, which is very suitable for use in buildings with rustic and coarse elements.

All terracotta materials from ancient patterns to reliefs are made by artisans from Ninh Thuan to ensure that a unique culture’s breath remains intact.

The light of the interior space is designed to be as dark as possible, using only natural light and candles for lighting.

Construction was difficult due to being renovated on the basis of an old villa. The old design has a patchwork of steel floor system to increase the usable area, the landlord does not agree to abandon this steel floor system altogether.

Therefore, the architect has chosen the “cut graft – balance” plan to handle the above situation.

The overall architectural space is a mixture of the mystical of Cham Pa culture and the absolute tranquility of Buddhism.

Cham Pa civilization used to be one of the most brilliantly developed civilizations in Southeast Asia. Since the 11th century, the Buddhist culture at its peak of development combined with the indigenous culture created a unique and vibrant Cham Pa cultural appearance.
