HA TINH – Dozens of fishermen in the Loc Ha district catch a 450 m long net to catch Yellow croaker. One day they collect a ton, each one gets one million dongs.
These days, the waters of Cua Sot (Loc Ha district) are in the season of the catfish. Along the tens of kilometers long coastline, groups of 12 to 15 fishermen group together, nets in an arc and then slowly pull ashore to catch fish.

The sea-fishing season starts from August to February of the lunar calendar every year. Fishermen use small bamboo boats, bring their nets offshore for about a kilometer and then drop them off.
Fishing nets are about 2 m high, 450 m long, purchased at markets in Ha Tinh province. At 6 o’clock, the fishermen released the first batch, after 2 hours they pulled the net in. On average, each group pulled about 3 batches per day.
Pulling the net takes about 30 minutes. The villagers divided into two groups of 6-7 people standing in a vertical line at either end of the net and then collecting the rope. The wire segments attached to the mesh are then folded over to avoid tangles.
Finished pulling the wire will reveal the mesh. At this time, the drag group must stand close together, hold the net firmly, narrow the arc so that the fish does not escape.
Team members use fish baskets. “Fish sold on the spot 45,000 VND / kg. On average, my boat catches 5-7 quintals every day, one day lucky to be one ton, but sometimes only 1-2 quintals”, Mr. Nguyen Vong 52 years old, resident of Thach Kim commune, Loc Ha district, said.
The meat croaker is quite soft, when removed from the net, be careful and gentle, otherwise it will be crushed.
On the shore, many groups of traders brought with them ice buckets, focusing on buying fish for classification. “Every day we win a lot, it’s easy to buy, but the day when the sea is upset, the fish come back, very difficult to collect. The three of them coordinate to buy a batch of fish, then divide it in parts. words per kg are about 5,000-10,000 VND “, said Ms. Bui Thi Hoai, a trader in Thach Ha district.
Finished sorting fish are put into the basket to the sea, dipped in water many times to clear the sand.
“In the past, there were a lot of pangasius, but recently, the wrecking problem was so rampant, so it decreased. The income from fish is not frequent. On a lucky day, a worker can make a profit of 1 million VND, on normal days, it is collected.” About 400,000 VND, with a rough meal, only a few kilograms were brought back to make food but not words “, said Nguyen Minh Com, 57 years old, living in Thinh Loc commune, Loc Ha district, said.
At the end of the afternoon every day, people clean their nets and wrap them up, then gather about 4 manpower to carry fishing gears home to prepare for the next morning fishing session.
