The communal house of Quan Gia village, Yen So commune (Hoai Duc district, Hanoi) has been ranked as a national historical and cultural relic since 1994. In this old house, there are 3 trees with hundreds of years old. When asked about the longevity of the three trees, the elderly all shook their heads and said: “From the time we were little, the tree was tall and lush, no one knew when it was planted”.

According to Mr. Nguyen Van Ky, who used to work as a craftsman from Quan Gia communal house, said: “In recent years, wood has been priced well, many people come to ask to buy it, there are also people who come to steal. About 4 years ago, a tree saw Unified auction of more than 8 billion, that money is used to maintain the Quan Gia family. 

About 6-7 years ago, a large branch of a tree near the road was stolen. Yen So commune then set up a police station with local people to protect 3 rare and precious trees of three hundred years old.

The oldest tree, estimated to be over 100 years old, is located right in front of the communal house, having a diameter of more than 1 meter, the size of two adult arms, about 15 meters high and spreading foliage wide. According to Mr. Ky, this tree has been paid by timber traders over 60 billion VND. However, due to disagreement between the authorities and the buyer, it has not been implemented. Since then, 3 trees have been looked after and cared for by the people.

The tree is growing well. “Out of 3 trees, 2 are rotting stump and termite, and the biggest one is growing very well, with luxuriant branches and leaves,” Ky added.
