Vietnam in black and white photo won an international award

Two Vietnamese photographers won the 3rd prize in the topic of architecture and portrait in the International Black and White Photo Contest 2020.

The Monochrome Photography Awards 2020 has just announced the results, including many award-winning works by Vietnamese photographers. The contest attracted more than 7,000 authors from 91 countries and regions to submit their works.

Photographer Le Viet Khanh won the 3 prizes in Architecture with the work “Buddha statue on the top of Indochina”. The author shared that at the time of the shooting, he had captured the rare moment when the foggy clouds followed the wind was surrounding the mountain, the clouds were not too thick, so the project could be seen clearly.

This is a bronze Buddha statue located in the spiritual complex at the top of Mount Fansipan in Sa Pa (Lao Cai), known as the roof of Indochina with an altitude of 3,143 m. Fansipan is the top tourist attraction of not only Sa Pa but also Vietnam. International and domestic tourists who almost come to Sa Pa will conquer this mountain.

On the subject of Portrait photo, author Nguyen Tan Tuan also won the third prize for his work “The Old Man of the Cham”, photographing an old man reading ancient books of the Cham people.

In addition, Nguyen Tan Tuan also has 2 consolation prize photos. This is the “Going Home” photo taken on the street photo theme. The work captures the moment a woman drives a flock of sheep home after a meal away in Ninh Thuan. The author shares that this is the hottest and arid region in Vietnam, so it is difficult to find a source of fresh grass for sheep to eat. The sheep will have to travel long distances to be fed.

Although it is arid, Ninh Thuan is the second largest vineyard in Vietnam, visitors coming here can also experience the life of grapes growers and try grape products.

Nguyen Tan Tuan’s work “Children playing on sand dunes” won the consolation prize also in the street photo topic. The scene of children playing with old tires in Nam Cuong sand hill is also a tourist destination of Ninh Thuan.

Nam Cuong sand dunes in Tuan Tu village, An Hai commune, Ninh Phuoc district, about 8 km from Phan Rang – Thap Cham city, so it takes only 30 minutes by motorbike from the city to arrive.

Photo “Nature and people” taken in Ha Long Bay by the Spanish author, Mark Beyermann, is also in the group of photos that are highly appreciated in the subject of Street photography.

Ha Long Bay with more than 2,000 large and small limestone islands is a ” natural wonder ” of Vietnam, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a destination not to be missed.

Some notable high-winning works in this competition are the first prize photo of the Abstract topic “Onmyouji” by Romanian Gheorghe Popa. The photo shows the frozen view of Lake Cuejdel from above. This is Romania’s largest natural dam.

The photo for the first prize in the Architecture title went to Taiwan photographer Po-Yi Li with the name “Inversion”. The author shared that he took a photo during a holiday in Chongqing, at the Zhong Shugs bookstore famous for its complex architecture like a maze.

The work “Horse Man” by Rudy Oei (Indonesia) won the first prize in the theme Landscape. Photo taken at the summit of the Bromo volcano in East Java, Indonesia.

Under the theme of The Wild Life, “The Walking Scalloped Antelopes” by photographer Thomas Vijayan shot in Namibia. The horned antelope is also the national symbol and species of the southern African nation of Namibia.
