Earth Photo 2020 is an international photo exhibition and contest organized for the third time by the Forest Service and the Royal Geographic Association. The contest is an opportunity for authors around the world to submit archival photos and videos, the amazing beauty and vulnerability of the natural world. Earth Photo 2020 attracts more than 2,600 entries in the following themes: Location, Changing Forest, Nature, People, Climate Change and Video.

In early December, the contest announced the winners and the finalists (short list). In which, on the topic People, the work Red Net Mending by Ly Hoang Long was selected for the final round and exhibition. Freelance photographer Ly Hoang Long’s favorite composition is traditional cultural activities. The above photo shows a family of fishermen in Ninh Thuan knitting nets in preparation for their next sailing trip. Ly Hoang Long has won more than 200 domestic and foreign awards in photography since 1999.

The final victory as well as the first place in the topic Earth Photo 2020 belongs to Jonathan Jimenez with a set of 4 pictures of abandoned buildings and wild trees invading. Four photos include an abandoned theater, swimming pool, cafe and hotel in Georgia, Italy and Portugal.

Dryland Farming is the work of award winning photographer Sun Yi in Nature. Photo taken from an altitude of nearly 915 m in Aragon, Spain. Aragon is the origin of Ebro – the largest river in terms of flow and Aneto – the highest mountain in Spain.

The picture with the highest ranking for People is Miss. Author Yanrong Guo takes a photo of a man smoking in the Di Liangshan Autonomous Region, Sichuan, China. The jury of the competition commented, “The portrait is beautiful and provocative when using color as from a drawing board”.

Winning the award in the topic of Climate Change is Joe Habben’s work photographing flooding in Venice, Italy. Venice is a famous tourist city with many names such as “city of love”, “canal city” … but in recent years there have been floods.

In the theme of the Forest of Transformation, Charles Xelot’s Dead Tree won. The photo was of a barren tree with a dry trunk still visible even though it had gone through a wildfire two years ago.

Some other prominent works also in the final round of Earth Photo 2020 are Back From Fishing photos taken by Dong Min and participated in the topic People.

The picture Before Going to the Sea by Chen Mingchong also belongs to the subject of Human photography. Photo shows two fishermen preparing boats, nets … to go fishing in Myanmar.

The work of planted tea hills and creating a pathway when viewed from above is like a human fingerprint photo taken by Ruan Kezhuang. So the photo was named Fingerprints of the Earth, and entered the top final image of the Human theme.

In the subject of Places, the Seda Sacred Land (Seda Sacred Land) by Chinese photographer Wang Wenwei was taken at Seda Wurong Buddhist Institute, Sichuan Province, China. It is covered with red houses, golden pagodas against the blue sky, white clouds and snowy mountains in winter.
