Vinh Moc tunnels are located in Vinh Thach commune, Vinh Linh district, Quang Tri province. This is a military – civil work during the Vietnam War. That was the war of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam with the aim against the attacks of the Republic of Vietnam and the United States of America.
You can completely move to the tunnels along National Highway 1A, close to the Martyrs Cemetery in Vinh Linh District, turn left, about 13km more towards the sea, you will reach Vinh Moc tunnels . On that road, perhaps few people know that below their feet this is a vast tunnel system, “a world” underground of the army and people of Vinh Linh during the resistance war from 1965 to 1972.

The will of “the house digs the tunnel”, “The enemy digs, stops digging; the enemy withdraws, continues to dig” along with the motto: “One inch does not go, one glass does not leave. Each village, commune is a fortress”, units with the local people quickly conducted tunneling to protect the lives of hundreds of people here! This work was carried out in early 1965 and completed early the following year.

During the war, this place used to be the enemy’s destruction point, the rain of bombs dropped from the air, red cannons fired from the sea in full force, perhaps because of that the tunnel was dubbed. is a land of fire with the name “dead coordinates”. The tunnel is dug in the red basalt soil, that’s why the air inside the tunnel makes the clay harder, so this place is still intact today!

The tunnel is designed in a dome with a size of 0.9 meters wide and 1.75 meters high, a total length of more than 2000 meters, with many connecting branches, every 4 meters there will be a small family apartment about 0.8 wide meters, about 1.8 meters deep, can accommodate 4 people. Inside the cellar, there is also a small hall used as a meeting place, performance or film show that can accommodate up to 50 people.
With a separate 3-story structure: the first floor is up to 12 meters deep to accommodate maneuvers and shelter when needed, the second floor is up to 15 meters deep, used as a residence, and living of people. The last floor is up to 23 meters deep, mainly to store food and weapons to supply Con Co island or for combat use for troops and local people.

Vinh Moc Tunnels have 13 different doors, of which, 6 doors are designed to connect to the hill, 7 doors to the sea and 3 vents. The tunnels are disguised discreetly, ensuring ventilation even in the rainy season, water is not deposited, all activities of the people are still normal, residents here rarely go out except in case of need. necessary or not dangerous.
