About 15 years ago, the drought-tolerant Acacia leaf acacia was planted along the coastal sand dunes from Phan Thiet to Phan Ri to preserve soil, prevent desertification, and exploit wood for sale to paper mills. After that, the seeds dispersed over the fallow lands creating natural acacia forests typical of the Binh Thuan coast nowhere to be found.

The local cajeput is drought-tolerant cajeput leaf acacia on the coastal semi-desert sand dunes. Each year, the tree flowers once a year at the end of December to the beginning of the calendar year.

This drought-tolerant species of acacia has a small stalk and leaves that are more pointed than the cajuput acacia commonly found in other localities. In the flowering season, each leaf axillary has a flower about 4-7 cm long like a squirrel tail. More than half a month later, new flowers fade.
