Phan Thiet has a long coastline, desert-like sand dunes, and diverse cuisine at affordable prices, suitable for a weekend trip to explore.
Phan Thiet is about 200 km from Ho Chi Minh City and can be traveled all year round. Dau Giay – Phan Thiet Expressway is open to traffic, shortening the travel time from Ho Chi Minh City to more than two hours, ideal for a “change of pace” schedule on the weekend. The two-day-one-night itinerary below suggests visitors explore the most unique features of the central coastal city of Binh Thuan.
Day 1
Morning
From Ho Chi Minh City, tourists travel by bus or drive their own car from 5am or 6am. Along the way, you can stop by for breakfast at rest stops or wait until Phan Thiet to enjoy famous breakfast dishes such as fish cake soup, banh beo, and pork intestine cake. Some addresses that many people choose are Pork intestine cake – Hoang Cam fish cake, Thu Khoa Huan dirt cake, Tuyen Quang fish cake noodle soup.
Taking advantage of the time before checking in to the hotel, visitors can visit two famous landmarks right in the city center: Dinh Van Thuy Tu and Duc Thanh school.
Van Thuy Tu Palace is a place to worship the Sea Patriarch of Binh Thuan fishermen. Inside is a place to worship more than 100 whale skeletons, including the largest whale skeleton in Southeast Asia. This is also the place where 24 royal decrees of the Nguyen Dynasty kings are kept. Duc Thanh School is where President Ho Chi Minh stopped to teach from September 1910 to February 1911, before going to find a way to save the country. Today, Duc Thanh school still retains almost intact memorabilia associated with President Ho Chi Minh’s time teaching in Phan Thiet.
These two locations are less than a kilometer apart, you can walk along the Ca Ty riverside road if the weather is cool. Ca Ty River is peaceful, flowing across Phan Thiet, closely associated with the lives of local people. Along the river are many boats and fishermen’s boats.
After sightseeing, visitors can have lunch at Phan Thiet clay pot rice or chicken rice restaurants, check in to the hotel and rest.
Evening
The afternoon schedule should start after 2:00 p.m., taking advantage of the opportunity to explore the city center area. A suitable place for those who love to explore culture is Ong Hoang’s floor.
Located on the top of Ba Nai hill, Ong Hoang’s Palace is the remnant of the villa built by Duke De Montpensier in 1911. However, currently only the villa’s negative base remains. The place tourists often go to is a bunker built by France during the war located nearby. This is the place where poet Han Mac Tu (1912 – 1940) dated and watched the moon with his lover Mong Cam.
People who love nature and like to relax can go to Ong Dia rock beach or Doi Duong beach.
The time after 4pm is the most ideal time to explore the giant sand dunes – a characteristic of Phan Thiet. The most famous is Cat Bay Hill in Quarter 5, Mui Ne Ward. This sand dune’s shape and color change depending on time. The afternoon is a good time to watch the sunset and take beautiful photos.
Visitors coming here should experience sandboarding on thin plastic sheets, priced from 10,000 VND – 20,000 VND. In addition, riding a motorbike, 4-wheeled terrain vehicle, or Jeep running over hills is an experience that brings a sense of adventure and adventure. At the foot of the sand dunes there are snack and drink shops.
In the evening, visitors explore the nightlife and enjoy seafood. Phan Thiet is not noisy. Even though it is a tourist destination, many shops close early. After 10 o’clock, the city became quiet.
Day 2
Morning
Waking up early to swim and watch the sunrise is a must-have activity when visiting coastal cities. In addition to the public beach at Doi Duong beach, visitors can travel to famous locations such as Mui Ne and Hon Rom. After swimming, you should have breakfast at local restaurants, try dishes like spring rolls, banh can, banh khot, and walk around the fishing village to buy some seafood.
Suoi Tien or the wine castle are suitable suggestions on the morning of your last day in the city. Suoi Tien is a small stream hidden deep in the sand dunes. The water’s characteristic orange-red color. Visitors come here barefoot, weaving through the stream. The current causes the sand in this area to form strange shapes. The wine castle is a place to learn about medieval architecture and enjoy wine deep underground. This place currently stores more than 200,000 bottles of wine.
Noon
After checking out of the hotel, tourists move south, to Tien Thanh commune, and visit the NovaWorld Phan Thiet metropolis, 1,000 hectares wide. This area has dozens of sightseeing and entertainment amenities, such as water parks, amusement parks, beach squares, commercial streets, cuisine, rows of cafes, and coastal clubs.
With a one-day schedule, you should try the water park with dozens of games. This park just opened at the end of August and the holy place attracts thousands of visitors every day. At the end of the day, tourists visit the food street with dozens of restaurants and shop for souvenirs at shophouses before leaving the city.
