With pieces of wood, paper, and plastic, Khanh can make lifelike model houses, no different from the commemorative houses that customers send photos to hire.
Vo Van Khanh (23 years old, living in Ben Tre) said he has loved making models since he was a child. When he was in kindergarten, with ice cream sticks and coconut boats, Khanh made models of boats, boats, and vehicles.
In 2019, while working, the Covid-19 epidemic broke out, Khanh returned to his hometown. During the long period of social distancing and free time, the boy’s childhood passion resurfaced.
“At that time, I returned to quarantine at my grandmother’s house. In my free time, I cut pieces of plywood, assembled them into a model of the house I was living in, and posted it on social networks.
I didn’t expect the product to receive so much attention. Many people have contacted me, hoping to help me make models of old commemorative houses,” Khanh said.
At the same time, dozens of people sent photos of old houses, asking Khanh to “recreate”. At first, the Western boy was not confident enough to accept guests.
But after a few models were praised, Khanh shared that “as long as the customer has a clear picture, states specific requirements and accepts the cost, I guarantee to make it exactly like in the photo.”
Saying that customers have to accept the cost sounds a bit “a bit heavy and expensive”, but in fact most of the models Khanh has delivered only cost over 1 million VND to a few million VND. In particular, for customer models with strict requirements and long working time, Khanh will quote a price of 20-30 million VND.
Khanh said that for small models, about 30cm each way and the requirements are not too high, he will complete them in a few days. On the contrary, large models of about 1 meter in each direction may take many months to complete.
“Model making is artistic, so emotions are needed to create a satisfactory product. It also takes time and patience to contemplate to create a model that vividly depicts the image of life.” , Khanh said.
Also according to the guy’s share, his customers are all over the country. Westerners like to make models to remember their homeland, Northerners buy Western house models because they like the difference.
In addition, there are also many people who have settled abroad and want to make models of old country houses to preserve memories. Therefore, Khanh’s products have been exported to all five continents.
Khanh said that he has over 10 models of houses and lifestyles of Westerners that are mass-produced and sold in quantities of hundreds of products. The number of pieces ordered by customers has reached dozens. His modeling job satisfies his passion and brings him a good income.
