HO CHI MINH CITY – From a row of sidewalks, Oanh snails on Vinh Khanh Street, District 4 gradually become a familiar destination for locals and tourists alike.

Vinh Khanh Street, Ward 10, District 4 has long been famous as a busy food street with bustling hot pot and seafood restaurants. This place is also known as the snail paradise in Saigon with dozens of large and small shops. One of the most well-known restaurants is Oanh snail, nearly 20 years old, present since the early days when the snail street was newly formed.

Ms. Oanh, the shop owner, said that in the past, her shop was just a small roadside line. At that time, she took a table, presented dishes such as incense snails, rice snails, scallops, crab claws… to sell to customers. Diners with good taste should introduce too many people, gradually expanding the scale as it is today.

Ms. Oanh recalls: “I’ve been selling snails for a long time. At that time, there weren’t many shops in this area like now, only my shop, Aunt Loan’s shop (Oc Loan), and snail Cuc. Later, shops like 6 No. snail Vu, snail Phat, snail Thao … more open, this street is as bustling as it is now.”

Snail street is crowded, attracting many domestic and foreign diners. Groups of tourists to Ho Chi Minh City often visit to enjoy different dishes of snails and seafood, about 20-30 dishes. The snails and seafood at the restaurant are all taken from the Binh Dien market. “Customers often eat fried crabs with salt and pepper and grilled scallops. Groups of 2-3 people eat a plate of 120,000 VND, while groups of 4-5 people order a plate of 250,000 VND. The bigger the crabs, the more they eat for guests. Damage will be changed, compensated differently,” said Ms. Oanh.

Ms. Loan in Binh Duong, drove to District 4, Ho Chi Minh City to meet you to eat at Oanh snail restaurant. She has been a regular customer at the restaurant for 10 years, has eaten at many different restaurants, but this place is her favorite: “I often go to this restaurant, the food here is very fresh, the grilled octopus, marinated is very delicious. and dry, the more crabs, the fresher.”

And Mrs. Hau in District 3 first visited Oanh snail shop, impressed with grilled scallops with salt and chili served with laksa leaves. “The scallops at the restaurant have very large children, a lot of meat, and a strong salt and chili sauce. In addition, I also ordered steamed clams with lemongrass, fragrant and delicious. The total of 2 dishes and the drink with a wet towel is 220,000 VND, quite suitable. What I’m not satisfied with is that the shop uses a lot of plastic and disposable foam boxes, so it doesn’t look very aesthetic,” she shared.

Previously, the snail shop was open for sale from 1 pm to midnight, but now it’s limited, only selling until 9pm. The restaurant also arranges tables less often than before, serving 50% of the capacity. From 6pm onwards, the shop starts to get busy, gradually crowded with customers.

“Sold on the spot, I feel very happy, glad that the society has reduced the epidemic, life is more stable, not as difficult as before, but unfortunately still have not been able to welcome tourists, so the number of visitors to the shop is still limited. “, Ms. Oanh said. Her shop has attached a QR code for customers to scan the medical declaration, although it is a bit complicated, she feels secure because it ensures the health of herself and the community.
