After more than two months of renovation, the Me Linh park and the 5,700 m2 Tran Hung Dao monument were basically completed. Compared to the 2017 image, the park has been remodeled with a new look. Currently, construction workers have completed the final stages.

Previously, the Center for Housing Management and Construction Inspection (Department of Construction) assessed that this area had many damaged and degraded items, so it proposed to renovate with a cost of more than 32 billion VND.Click to flip the photoClick to flip the photo

Tran Hung Dao monument built before 1975 with reinforced concrete is the highlight in this area.

According to the restoration plan, the body of the statue is chiseled away with mortar to treat cracks, waterproofing, plastering, replacing wiring and lighting.

The 12 m high statue pedestal is covered with granite of the same type and color as before, waterproofing and protecting the wall surface. Three sides of the pedestal with six reliefs were removed for cleaning and repainted in the original color. The cost to renovate the statue and the pedestal is about 3.5 billion VND.

Large vermilion-colored bas-reliefs recount the three times Dai Viet defeated the Nguyen – Mong army in the 13th century, associated with the famous general Tran Hung Dao.

The park area around the 3,300 m2 monument has been replaced with granite floor tiles. The six basic tree pots still retain the same architecture and design after re-paving the stone.

Old trees are cut down and relocated for new planting. The park is planted with many more trees such as orchids, jasmine, yellow pineapple, orchids, apricots…

Around the plant, pots are fitted with granite chairs. In the near future, the park will be equipped with a lighting system with lamp posts up to 3 meters high and many lamp posts nearly one meter low.

An artificial lake with an area of 900 m2 behind the monument was repaired, the construction unit treated waterproofing, and built a new pumping and drainage system.

“The decoration of the lake has been basically finished, now it’s just a matter of cleaning before pumping water,” said Mr. Hung, while spraying water.

On February 24, workers decorated miniatures with plants and small flowers.

Me Linh Park is located on the banks of the Saigon River, adjacent to Ton Duc Thang, Hai Ba Trung, Thi Sach, Ngo Duc Ke, Phan Van Dat, and Ho Huan Nghiep streets.

Once completed, the park will connect to the newly renovated Bach Dang Park . This combination aims to create open cultural space along the river for Ho Chi Minh City.
