BINH DINH – Using water to wash rice, vegetable peels, bananas, broken eggs and expired milk, Ms. Thu Huong incubates them to water her vegetables, creating a green garden all year round.

Organically grown foods are often superior in quality to other types but are rarely available and even if they can be purchased, they are unlikely to be organic.

Understanding this, from nearly ten years ago, Thu Huong, from Quy Nhon city (Binh Dinh) started gardening to provide clean and fresh vegetables for her family.

At that time, she was a gardener on the terrace of 400 m2, where 3/4 of the area was devoted to orchids, and the rest grew vegetables. In 2019, the family moved to a new house. Here she decided to design a greenhouse for gardening, with a total cost of over 50 million VND.

The greenhouse area is 60 m2, surrounded by thick nets to prevent insects, covered with a roof from rain and sun and an automatic sprinkler system. The climate here is very sunny and windy, but thanks to the misting system, it ensures the right temperature for the garden.

According to her, the greenhouse is only one of the four main elements for a perfect garden. The other three factors are seed, soil, and manure. With seeds, she prioritizes buying seeds from Japan, the US, Thailand … capable of producing nutritious, beautiful vegetables and limiting pests.

As for the soil, after each planting crop, nutrients are absorbed by the previous crop and drifted away when watering, so before planting the new litter, it is necessary to dry and prepare the soil thoroughly, in order to help the soil to be loose and to avoid some diseases and insects. coincide. Add porous, smooth soil and fertilizers to help the soil full of nutrients for the new crop. Particularly for potted plants, it is necessary to add more potassium. ( Watch the video on how to make land by Ms. Huong ).

With manure, Ms. Huong herself composts some organic fertilizers to irrigate the plants from kitchen waste materials including water for washing rice, water for washing fish and meat, peels of fruits and vegetables, old green vegetables, shriveled leaves and bananas. , milk, damaged eggs, expired … Her family runs a hotel business, so she makes full use of kitchen waste, in order to save costs and protect the environment. The rice water she collects is watered every 3 days. The other types of compost are composted for a month, then can be watered depending on the type of compost . ( Watch the video of two types of organic fertilizers that Huong makes ).

“In the past, I was busy, so I often went to buy organic fertilizers. After a year of retirement, I can do it myself, take advantage of raw materials, carefully compost, low cost, so I use it regularly to help vegetables grow. Greener, greener. On average, about once a week, I water the compost once a week, feeling like the trees are growing fast, “Huong, once the director of a bank branch in Quy Nhon, shared.

With many years of experience and having a methodical garden, now gardening with Ms. Huong is gentle, not fiddly as before. During the day, she usually spends about 2-3 hours to weed, cultivate the roots to absorb air, or prune and sow new litters.

Due to the limited area, she prioritizes growing vegetables for multiple harvests such as kale, cabbage, spinach and herbs… In addition, she grows beans, melons and arranges a garden. separate planting area due to longer care period.

The windy weather in Quy Nhon makes it difficult to grow cabbage. After a few years of unsuccessful planting, last year Ms. Huong planted several dozen thick cabbage rolls.

The vegetable garden meets the eating and drinking needs of a family of 4 adults and a small child. For many years now, Ms. Huong’s family has been following a “green diet”. Every morning, the whole family drinks nut milk, then drinks juices from vegetables. Meals prioritize raw vegetables and salads, and prepare simply to keep the most nutrients.

Seeing a surplus of vegetables, recently Huong’s daughter-in-law also opened a detox juice shop, with vegetable sources in the garden including kale, kale, spinach, Centella Asiatica, dandelion…

Since her retirement, Ms. Thu Huong has been running a hotel business, taking care of her grandchildren, and gardening. She is cherishing expanding the area of clean vegetables to be able to provide for many people.

“In the past, I went to gardening, not only to be self-sufficient for my family but also to relax and relieve work pressure. Then the garden soaked in my blood, making me always feel healthy, love life, and now want to live. spread the planting of clean vegetables for everyone to grow together”, Huong shared.
