HANOI – Cuc, persimmon and some other flowers of the Me Linh district are introduced to visitors during the three-day festival.

30 km from the center of Hanoi, Me Linh flower village in Me Linh commune is over 2,000 hectares wide, is the largest flower growing place in the North and is likened to the capital of flowers.

The Me Linh Flower Festival in 2022 with the theme “Me Linh colorful flowers” takes place in 3 days, from December 9 to 11 at the special national relic site of Hai Ba Trung Temple. The festival is staged on a scale of 4,300 m2 with 10 clusters of art installations and decorations in the area of ​​​​the road pulling troops at the gate of Hai Ba Trung temple.

This is the first time that Me Linh district has organized a flower festival to display and introduce all kinds of flowers, flower products, ornamental plants, art installations, and flower decorations… of artisans to visitors. Flowers at the festival are 100% from gardeners in the district.

Mr. Dang Chu Dong, 64 years old, Ha Loi 4 village, a longtime flower grower here, said that the soil and climate of Me Linh district are suitable for growing roses, and chrysanthemums…

“Pink is a flower that takes a lot of care, with bonsai persimmon trees requiring even more work. Currently, the district has nearly 1,300 hectares of land for flower production, of which the area of ​​rose cultivation here accounts for about 93%. bonsai uses the root of roses of different types of roses. The soil for growing bonsai roses must be clean, porous soil,” Mr. Dong introduced the ancient Sapa persimmon tree with a lifespan of decades.

Roses bloom all year round, the colder the weather, the more fragrant and colorful the flowers are. Flowers still bloom in summer, but in hot weather, the flowers won’t be very colorful. Each flower usually blooms for a whole month, after the flowers fade, people have to renovate the soil, the roots… to continue the new wave.

The land for growing roses has been covered in 11 communes of Me Linh district. Especially, Me Linh district has cooperated with Hanoi Agricultural Extension Center to deploy a high-quality rose model with about 350 hectares in the fields of communes such as Van Khe, Trang Viet, Tien Phong, Hai temple area. Me Linh is also famous for daisies. This is an imported chrysanthemum variety but adapts well to weather conditions. Chrysanthemums planted about 3 months will give a harvest. In the process of planting due to many pests and diseases, it is necessary to spray insecticides for 8 days.

“The daisies in Me Linh have large flowers, thick petals, fragrant and long-lasting. The flowers are grown by sprouts, so they are resistant to diseases, the plants grow quickly, reduce the growth time. My family has 8 sao (nearly). 3,000 m2) growing chrysanthemums, two crops per year. The best weather to grow flowers is 28 degrees. Winter is at the best time. Chrysanthemum is a key plant that brings economic benefits to a family of 4, total income. annual import from 300 million dong,” said Mr. Nguyen Van Nhat, Dai Bai commune, Dai Thinh.

Depending on the family, each year can grow from 2 to 3 crops. After harvesting, chrysanthemums are mainly distributed to the Hanoi market. Traders in the area also collect and select flowers to sell in China, Laos and Cambodia.

This year’s Me Linh Flower Festival features a 20m long heart path decorated with roses.

The festival also has a combination of 4 m high flower waterfalls. The interaction of light and flower art is studied by artisans to create beautiful spaces for visitors. This is also an ideal place to take photos for tourists.

Not attending the festival, visitors can still take photos by the sunflower field on the campus of Hai Ba Trung Temple.

Currently, Me Linh has about 430 hectares of land for growing flowers, forming large-scale specialized cultivation areas (50 hectares or more) in Dai Thinh, Me Linh, Van Khe and Thanh Lam communes, mainly roses (accounting for 90% of the time) area), in addition to some other flowers, such as chrysanthemum, lily, orchid, lily, lily, sunflower.
